What's a reasonable price for a 457 in decent but not perfect shape, with 5 mags and the plastic box? I have a recent Blue Book and the Catalog, but values have been pretty volatile so I thought I would ask if the published values need to be adjusted.

On a totally unrelated note, Classic Arms and Archery in Lexington, KY has a few 457 mags for $20. I saw them there today. There were at least two, maybe more. If someone needs 457 mags that's a pretty good deal.

Locally, a 457 in the condition described, with box and that many mags would bring $550.........or maybe a little more. IF - you could find one.

Mine is not going anywhere. A real sleeper in the compact 45 line up. And a lot of gun for the money. Just compare it to the plastic guns. And see what they ask for that.........stuff. ;) Regards 18DAI

Mine isn't going anywhere unless I find something I love more. Mine is my only .45ACP gun, but it's a dream to shoot. If I found a 457s at a reasonable price, I might give up my 457. Or, I might own two 457 variants. The M&P 45c is probably the closest current production gun, but I'd rather have the 457.

I lucked out and got a Zandler's 457, with original labeled box, bore brush, wax paper and owners manual/papers but only 1 mag.
Forget what I traded for it, but it wasn't worth the prices 457's are going for now.
But if someone offered me $575.00, I'd have to think about it.

Prices seem to vary by region, but I think around $450.00-475.00 would be reasonable. A 7+1 round, light weight, reliable and accurate .45 TDA pistol has a lot of positives.

A stainless slide version is worth a bit more, and the two tone Zander version seems to be worth less.

When I got the 457 at a gun show I didn't know it was a Zander's "limited edition" till I looked it up on the innerweb.
I found out here on the Forum that even though it is a 1 year only gun it is worth less than a standard 457.
Any idea why?

For a 7+1 DA gun in 45 I prefer my Sig P220. The 457 doesn't really feel like a compact to me.

I can only guess that people just don't like the look. Functionally, it's no different than any other 457. The SCSW speculates that there should be a premium, but the few I've seen for sale seem to be priced about the same as a regular 457.

I had one about two years ago. I paid around $400.00 for it 2 magazines, no box nada.

So that seems to be a reasonable price to me for all you are getting.

They are great guns, accurate and fun to shoot. I carried it on my bullet proof vest as a backup until I bought a Kimber pro carry II commander, with the alloy frame. It's a great gun I carry a lot in the summer. My S&W 1076 10mm is now riding in it's place on the vest and off duty.

It's one of the great mysteries of 3rd Gen collecting. :D I have my own opinions why this is so... but I will say this: If you were to compare a group of all three that were brand-spanking-new-in-original-factory-box, I'm pretty certain that the Zanders gun would bring the most money. But as a slightly-to-moderately "used & abused" gun? I'm sure that the stainless/alloy version (the newest/youngest and available only 4 years) would bring the most money followed by the (popular and longest running of all) all-black version. I believe that the novelty of the Zanders reverse two-tone (especially in a "Value Line" gun) just doesn't age well. :o

Also remember that the "Value Line" Model 457S was made and sold during the time that the "railed" Model 4513TSW was its premium level competition. Guess which one of the two that I would have bought? :D (Hint: Black riveted-on "mustache rails" are not my thing). ;)

I guess it must be my Italian heritage, but that 457 reverse two tone got my attention faster than a free pizza and free ice cold beer vendor would.
But I do agree with you TTSH.
And thanks for your answer and GaryS to my question.

Now where did I see the free pizza sign????

I should point out, in the interest of full disclosure, that I *did* try to buy a Zanders Model 457 back in 2014 as part of a two-gun (both 3rd Gens) deal. :o Turned out to be a stupid, unsuccessful bargaining approach and I ended up losing both guns and having a nasty fallout with that dealer. :( Never tried that stupid idea again! :p

But the point is that I *did* like the gun well enough to take it home with me if only the dealer had gone for my deal. Unfortunately, he wanted to sell the other gun to a local homeboy/friend and that was the real hang-up. :o Oh well.

To me, the real novelty of a standard black 457 is that it is............BLACK. :)

Very few 3rd gen 45s were made in black or blue. The PC Recon 45, 4505, Melonite 4566, PC 45CQB and the ultra rare unicorn like small run of Black Shorty 45s are the only ones that come to mind.

I like a black 3rd gen 45. More than a two tone. My 0.02 Regards 18DAI

457 pricing

I have had several of these fine pistols over the past few years, in all three flavors. I finally sold down to just one 457, which turned out to be the ZanderSports version. They all shot great - I swear my 457 shot as well as my 4513TSW. They're under appreciated, IMO. While the price as moved up a bit in the last year or so, I'd expect to pay 400-450 for a LNIB 457, complete with mags and paperwork. I think the least I was able to buy one for was $339 - a very nice LE trade.

I'd sell my wife's SUV for a black Shorty 45 ...

I'm fond of black guns myself, especially for carry. So much so that I just bought a 457 after reading glowing reports here. I'm adding it as a carry gun to my recently acquired 4516-2.

I paid $499 on GB for it but after shipping and transfer it will be about $560 or so, not counting the Hogue rubbers I got for it.

Swap meet?

What no photo? My 4516 came with 10 mags, it's what pushed me over the edge. I knew I'd be getting a 457 so I figured the extra mags would come in handy.

I for one did like the Zander variant, and would like to find one at a reasonable price, but sorry Ozark Marine, paying nearly what I did for a very cherry LNIB 4516-2 and 10 mags would't work for me. Maybe a trade tho ...
