Good deal or GREAT deal?! Model 5906
A guy locally who I've dealt with twice before has a 5906 in excellent condition with THREE original magazines that he will let me add to my collection of 3rd Gen Smiths for $375. This is not a police trade-in 5906 and does not have the original box with it, but I've seen it in person and it is in excellent shape. As a 3rd Gen fanatic, I'd be stupid not to jump on this before he offers it to someone else, right? I'm pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger, just wanted to hear some other thoughts and opinions. In my opinion, this is a great deal even if it only came with one magazine. What say you? Thanks.

I don't know the market in your area, but here in PA that would be decent. I sold one last year that was in good shape (not great) with one mag for 350.

I say yes, great deal. If it was me, I suppose I would buy due to price but only with the intention of forwarding the deal to one of my many gun people. I say this because I own two 5906's and though I love most all 1-2-3rd Gens, there really is only so much use I can get from a 5906 and three might be too many, haha.
If it was an adjustable sight model, I would be far less excited.

I'd be all over it if I could. They go for at least $100 more than that around here IF you can find one.

Sounds like a good price.
Not having seen a picture, I have to say I prefer 5906's with the Novak low-mount style rear sights compared to the larger adjustable rear sight with the "ears," which I think is clunky looking (although some people love 'em).
I'd go for it, but I already have a nice one! Here's a picture of mine!

It's afair deal as long as it doesn't have the giant gormy sights and enormous square trigger guard.

Huh, I think it's a great deal as long as it has the clunky adjustable sights. Heck, the square trigger guard isn't bad either. (Btw, I'm just messing with the two above post)
Back on topic now, Be sure to share picture! I have a 5906TSW with factory night sights and boy does it shoot real real well.

I totally respect anyone who likes the "indestructible" adjustable rear sight even though I'm dead firm in being opposed to the look.
Here's what I will NEVER understand:
Why? Why the huge protective wings? I can understand durability I guess, I don't think anyone would suggest they are fragile. But in the real world, cops and other armed and uniformed professionals carried revolvers with adjustable sights for countless decades. S&W Model 15's, 19's 66's and 67's worked over every square mile of this great nation and if anyone EVER suggested that rear sight was a liability, it would be the first time I have ever heard it.
If they were svelte and tank-tough, hell yeah. But these hahaha, svelte they are NOT!

I've got several of each but the profile of the adjustable sights to me look the best.

The last 5906 in great condition I saw at my local NW Ohio gun store was $425. Had it been $375, I would have bought it and called it a good deal.

DON'T BUY IT!!!
Send me a PM with his contact info and I will fall on that sword.
I've seen very few 3rd gens locally in the past several months, the well used ones that I have seen are going for $450-$500.
