Thanks for sharing that article! Neat read.
I have the prototype black PC 45CQB and one of the 91 stainless model 45CQB based on the 4566. Very nice guns. The likes of which we will not see again. Regards 18DAI

Had one ..back in the days when I still shot my SD-9....... before I met you guys I never really thought about how small the PC runs of guns might be; or for that matter collecting.........I thought of them as factory custom guns without having to sent them off to ASP, Trapper or Austin Buhlert.... and best of all they were only half the price of those guns!!!!!!
...... couldn't stand the "Billboard"....... how can anyone carry a gun called a "CQB"....unless you are on a SWAT Team... if you ever used it you would be crucified................. as a Mall Ninja looking for a fight........ but it led me to get a 4566..... heavy but no "Ninja name"
now I wish it was still in the safe. IIRC it was flipped on a new PC DPA5906

God bless all you guys & gals who were awake and paying close attention back in the good ole days of PC 3rd Gens.
While some of the names and billboards and gun magazine reviews got a little silly, there is no question that they are all very fine guns. Too bad for me that I will never own one, but Massachusetts is Massachusetts and we have our "lists" to contend with... and I can count the number of PC 3rd Gens I've seen for sale here in-state on less than one hand.
Good thing for me that I'm generally quite satisfied with my everyday non-PC 3rd Gens. Like the guy who doesn't know the joy of experiencing expensive fine wines, ordinary swill is good enough for me!

Its been awhile but IIRC... MSRP for most (1994-2000ish) were around $800-1000........ one local gun shop stocked them...... they were slow movers.... and if again IIRC I got mine (5) for around $600 for new and $500 used (ANIB/unfired).
Four of mine ( 2 Shorty 9s, DPA 5906, and a SD-9) were double stack hi-cap 9mms being sold in the years of the 1994 AWB and hi-caps mags were unavailable or could run as much as $100/mag. I had a couple of preban 6906s and 915s..... and a good stash of mags. A lot of folks were reluctant to buy a gun for a $1000 and be limited to the 2 hi-cap mags that came with it...... and most Police Officers weren't going to spend $1000 on a duty gun when they could get a 6906 or 5906 for $300.

For the black and two tone aluminum frame Id put a value of $950 for used in good condition and $1800 to $2000 for LNIB.
For one of the fewer all stainless 45CQBS, $1K USED and $2K to $2200 for LNIB.
In the case of the VERY RARE two tone all steel PC 45CQB - your quess is as good as mine. There were not many of those made.
BAM-BAM back in the day here, mid to late 90s/ early 2000, we had a handfull of LE who carried the PC 45CQBs as duty guns. Myself included. That is what those guns were designed for - close combat, high accuracy and reliability and still easy to carry and conceal.
In fact, the PC 45CQB came about because of an order for 19 extremely similar pistols ordered for the LAPD

Great gun..... I'd still have mine if it wasn't for the "CQB" on the slide.......they and you were police officers...... I wasn't' and at the time M. Ayoob was writing all about how DA 's and plaintiffs lawyers would use that kind of stuff against you with a jury. Plus it was about the same size as my Sig 220 and the 245 was smaller................................so ....... that said I did and do carry a PC Shorty 9 ...... that doesn't even say "Shorty 9" on the side (with a spare in the safe)

Great gun and magazine article.
I just recently picked up a 4563 TSW and am really pleasantly surprised with it.
Great little shooter and very flat.
I was curious as to what the experts think the 4563 TSW pistols were worth right now. I am not planing on selling the one I have, just a point of interest/curiousity.

I was lucky enough to find the seller of one of those 19 or 20. I live here in the homeland of those (Los Angeles) and was in the right place at the right time with the seller. I have posted it here. I originally bought his two tone 4563CQB and followed up with the closer, for the all stainless two tone PC4566 (1 of 19 or 20). Original owner was a LAPD firearms instructor that these were originally ordered for. Both are wonderful guns that will be in my possession for a long time and both have had many rounds through them and they shoot great.
Oh yeah, the BIG BILLBOARD on the slide doesn't bother me at all on any of these PC guns as I don't see it when shooting it! And I like it! It is a time stamp of the era in which they were made. I wish it was bigger with neon flashing lights etc

CQB
Awesome guns. Had a couple come and go thru my safe and I would love to have them back. This thread is A tribute to A Great Pistol But Is also a sad reminder of a bygone era at Smith that we will never see again. I Still Remember Vito from the PC calling me when one of guns was In For Some Work To Discuss With Me Some Custom Options I Could Have Him perform.
Now the Goal Is crank out more plastic !!!

Just great pistols IMHO. I originally bought a black alloy framed version, and was so impressed I soon bought the all stainless. Shot a few rounds out of the all stainless, then put it away. Carried the alloy CQB full time for over a year after having a Glock malfunction in a lethal force situation. Sold the all stainless a couple years ago, but still have the one I carried. Just excellent. A very confidence inspiring pistol. Never a malfunction of any kind.

And it verifies your price estimate on these, too, 18. I wish I had the money right now to buy one of them; I'm sure I'll regret in years to come that I didn't.

That pair of beauties makes me want to run out and buy a lottery ticket today... ... 'cause that's the only way a poor man like me could ever afford them. But no question... they are magnificent!

By the way, some of you (like me) might have missed this very quick recent sale on GB of 4566 CQB without box for $1,500. I hope it was somebody here who got it! That's a really great buy for a pistol of only 91 units!

.45 PC CQB Article
The pinnacle of Smith and Wesson Performance Center for sure!!!!
These are outstanding firearms.
The lure of the 4566 CQB and/or 4563 CQB is for real, and if you can get your hands on one, by all means, do so.

Here is an update:
I acquired this :
Aside from my Les Baer 1.5" P2, it is without question the single most accurate .45 I have ever shot or owned.
Truly an AMAZING GUN.
I knew it was a bit rare, but did not realize how uncommon until I started doing some research. One of 108 built, and 103 that left the factory (or were sold) I understand.
This is the nicest non 1911 carry .45 I have ever seen. Such a shame they don't make more of these.

Could anyone please tell me what the difference between the Shorty 45 and CQB 45 is?
Somewhat on topic, but I've fallen for the .45 round in general after picking up a 4506-1, 4516 and 945-1. With that windfall of 45 goodness, its' now come time to let go of some of the S&W wheel guns to make space for these amazing time capsules. What a great round; it's like an evolution to me from what started at 9mm, then .38, then .357 and now to .45. It may sound odd, but I fell like it's a grown man's round...
So now the question: Is anyone thinking of parting with their 845/945's? PM me if so. Thanks everyone!

The biggest difference between a Shorty 45 and a 45CQB are the size. A Shorty 45 having a 3.75 inch barrel and shorter grip frame, housing a 7-round mag vs the 45CQBs 4 inch barrel with full grip frame and 8-round mag.
The two guns actually share more than they differ, including Novak Low Mount sights, match grade barrels, Briley bushings, front strap checkering and PC triggers.
The Shorty 45 having a slight concealment advantage over the 45CQB due to its slightly smaller size. Regards 18DAI

The shorty 45 would be a bit smaller than the CQB and or the 4566, I myself prefer the bigger framed 4566 or 4563...
With the right holster one could conceal the 4506-1 4566 and or shorty 45....
Holster is key

Gotta love Necro threads ...
That said, S&W should've done a run of these PC CQBs in the most awesome 10mm AUTO, using as the base gun the 4.25" model 1066.
