Default New 5906 to Me

I have been looking for a S&W 5906 with the early square trigger guard off and on for the past couple of years. These big steel guns are soft shooters and now are really iconic to the late 80's early 90's. I lost a few auctions. Last Sunday I was on GB and looking at something else and I saw an auction for a 5906 on the site of a seller that I have bought from before that specializes in police trade ins. I put my in my bid and won. I picked it up Friday. It came with three factory magazines. The receipt from the seller listed it as police trade from South Georgia State Collage. It has the name Bigalow etched on the bottom of the trigger guard. Probably spent years in officer Bigalow's holster as he patrolled that fine educational facility in his crown vic, keeping the kids safe.

Glashaus, Looks really clean for a trade in. I've been wanting a 5906 as well. Does your seller have more?

They just had the one at the time, but they may have more.

I'm familiar with GSD from the Tulsa show. He had some Belgium Brownings I was interested in. You got a great deal on the 5906.

With original 14 round magazines, very nice! I love a correct-era package.

The 5906's are no nonsense solid performing guns. As with all third gens the problem is acquiring spare parts. Give it a "good ho,e" and may it serve you well.

Very cool. I’d love to have Deuce Bigalow’s pistol.

It may not be an issue given that it was a law enforcement pistol but since it was from the grip recall era, make sure it has an updated grip with a dimple on the bottom.

I have 2, square trigger guard with standard sights, and round guard with the adj sights (dead night sights, soon to be relamped)

Get a bunch of spare recoil springs, and keep it clean and lubed. I think Midway has them cheapest. You can pick up extra later 15 round followers too. they do wear.

Nice score. If you're looking Midway currently has new factory magazines available.

I was just on the sellers site, looks like they have a couple 5906's from the same batch from South Georgia State Collage as the one that I got, comes with three magazines too

Thanks for being a bad influence! I just won one of those 5906s. The finish looks shaky and the grip a bit rough, but I'm sure it'll work just fine.

Fortunately I picked up a few Mec-Gar 14-round mags, so I've got plenty of mags for both this 5906 and the 469 that I carry too. I love magazine interchangeability.

I have a NOS 5906 with the round trigger guard and the MIM hammer.

Probably the most overbuilt 9mm. Recoil is nil.

Great guns indeed.

The MecGar flush 17 round magazines are also solid performers as well. Might be out of stock, but get on some back in stock notification lists. I really like Greg Cote LLC for magazines, if he carries what you need. I've ordered maybe 5 times from him.

for the 59 series mags, only use original S&W or Mec Gar.

Outstanding! I wonder if the one that you got also has an officers name etched on the trigger guard? They tried to buff it off mine but if you turn it in the right light you can still read it. The receipt that I got with mine from GSD stated that it came from South Georgia Collage trade in. GSD often includes tags or info on were the guns came from. I have bought from them more then a few times.

I'll let you know as soon as I get it, and post more extensive photos than they had in the auction.
