Thinking about buying a S&W 645
Good condition, 2 mags no box $600.00.
I know it's a 2nd gen and just wondering if you guys think it would be worth buying or pass on it.

I don't think it's an awful price, especially if that is the final/OTD price, but I also don't believe it's a steal. In a very recent thread it was asked "4506 or 645 and why?" and my answer is 4506 of the two but most definitely 745 over both, every time.
Currently I have no 4506, no 645 and two 745's and my answer is still another 745.
So I wouldn't jump on that 645 at $600, but it's not a bad deal.

Glad you decided to buy it. Its a big chunk of iron and takes some work on your part to shoot well but its worth it in my opinion. This is a target from a couple of weeks ago. Ten yards rapid fire.

you won't regret it . I have a m645 ,745 , and a 945 . They all have their place in the safe , and I must say my m645 is a fine shooter , and I bought it off the Forum . Let me rephrase that , I bought them all from the Forum .

The 645 is capable of some fine accuracy. These two targets were shot before my right eye cataract began forming in around 2012-13. I had cataract surgery back in 2016, so I can see great with the right eye now. However, it's a little tough at the indoor range to focus on both the sights and target with the new lens implant. For all you young guys with those great "young eyes" as I call them, enjoy.

I am glad you did buy it. $600.00 was not that bad of a price. I regretted selling mine @25 years ago, but I replaced it a couple of years ago so all is well. I was amazed, and got put in the Forum "jail" for saying I couldn't believe that one was going north of a grand, and still days left on the auction. Someone said that S&W estimated it would @ $1200 now to produce them.
I really like the 645.

Congratulations! I'm sure you will love your new 645. I've never owned one but I do have four 3rd Gen .45s. What i like about the 645 are the two-piece stocks. They dress up quite nicely with wood panels.

Hello Ozark Marine
Going with either is fine. I have a 4506-1 and a 4566 TSW and they are both super pistols. With the 4506-1 you can change the grips, straight back or curved whereas I don't think that can be done with the 645. Oh, both can be had, if you're interested.
Good luck,
T&B

I still have mine... It was hand built by my friend & dept Armorer as his class gun. It was a late gun & included all the upgrades. It is an easy gun to shoot well, feeds anything.
I picked up a second one a few years ago...

I picked up a police trade in 645 a few years ago.
I got it pretty cheap as it was cosmetically challenged a bit. not really bad but certainly no safe queen. At any rate I have subsequently upgraded it to 45 Super. I am very happy with it as such. Six bills seems a little high, but I do not see them coming down anytime soon. I do not think that you will regret the purchase. Best to stock up on magazines though while they are still readily available. I think that it is only a matter of time before the mags dry up like they have for the 10mm guns.
