SW99 MSRP When New?
Anybody remember what these sold for when they were new?
It seems most people are unfamiliar with this model... they think it's a knockoff, or a pre-Sigma "bargain" gun. IIRC these things commanded a pretty hefty price when sold new, I'm thinking around $500-$600 in early 2000s dollars... am I remembering that wrong?
I know they don't command big bucks now, but the Walther P99 is still holding it's own against newer designs from HK, S&W, SiG, and FN so there's some staying power there.
I don't mean to knock the old Sigma line or the SDVE pistols, but I just don't consider the SW99 to be in the same category... am I wrong?

To the best of my recollection the S&W 99 series trailed slightly under Glocks in price at that time. The model was dropped around 2004 or so. When I see one in a shop it sits on the shelf a while; unless it is a .40 S&W. Then it sits long enough to grow moss.
I bought a used 990L .40 S&W two weeks ago for $150.00, no box or mags. I had a mag amongst my miscellaneous firearms related items. I sold it to a friend of my sons, another trout fisherman. Trout fishermen seem to like handguns chambered in calibers that begin with a 4.
The rear sights were notorious on the 99 series for working loose and getting lost.

Walther is now supplying frames to Magnum Research for their version of the P99. Check out the Magnum Research MR9 & MR40. They do a 4.5" barrel version that looks pretty sharp too.
And of course the P99 is still available from Walther. I bought one new back around 1999 and still have it. They are great guns.

I'd like to have one of the SS MR9 4.5" slides and put it on my SW99 frame... the "baby eagle" slide profile and the SW/Walther round trigger guard frame would look pretty sporty, imo. No reason it shouldn't work unless tolerances are too far off... and it's a pretty expensive route to making a pistol look cool for no real reason.

The BBGV has the MSRP at $667, add $41 for 45ACP
Here's one I had in 45ACP, sold for $639 three years ago:
