Default 5944

I saw a 5944 at a gun show yesterday, I could have gotten it with one mag in about 70 - 80% condition for 350. How bad did I screw up by not getting it?

I wouldn't say that you missed any kind of a jackpot. It is certainly a scarce model, but not a model that was seemingly ever in high demand. Basically, it is a 5904 that is DAO. In other words, it is a full size 9mm double stack with alloy frame and no levers on the slide as it is a pre-cocked DAO.

Good pistol. Now if it was 98%-100% NIB with the box, then yep, it's certainly got some value as a "collectible", especially for those looking to have NIB examples of the irrational number of 3rd Gen model variants. This one is a scarce variant.

As a 70-80% shooter or carry gun, it would be a good one for those tasks... at maybe $350.

Since you already have the much more common 5946, you probably didn't miss out on much. Unless you want a range pistol that's a bit lighter than the 5946, I'd say it was a good pass.

Thanks guys, I was worried I'd missed finding something worthwhile. As for the 5946, it's not such a common one! Its one of the pilot guns from the NYPD switch to 9mm pistols. Rumor has it that the pilot guns were built in the performance center.
