Model 4013 Tactical version???
I have a opportunity to buy a model 4013TSW. I believe it's the Tactical version listed above the TSW version with a rail in the S&W catalog. Here's my dilemma. Everything looks correct but the serial number prefix. Per the book, it should be MSE the prefix on the guns serial number is MSF7589. Is there anyone that can help me identify this gun? Its only be fired maybe 200 times and looks brand new.

"Starting serial number prefix is MSExxxx", according to SCS&W. They were made for two years, MSF would be next in the series. That is a very nice looking gun, I would not hesitate.

$600 is quite high with respect to what I paid for mine. From those two photos, it appears to be in good condition but more photos would help a lot. Is it the gun and one magazine only or does it have the correctly numbered box?

I agree $600.00 is really high IMO, I have one and it's a great pistol and is my EDC. I picked up mine for $350.00 but that was about 5 years ago and it was in great condition.

I paid $515 for my NIB 4013TSW about 8 - 9 years ago. I don't think $600 is too far out of line. I put the same Hogue grips on mine for a short time but found them to be too thick and I ended up putting the factory grips back on.

Mine has the MSF prefix, and was advertised as having been used by the California Highway Patrol. The lot of guns mine was part of, were released for sale when the CHP changed their handgun selection.

Mine was $419 plus shipping and transfer fees back in 2015. No factory box (it came in an aftermarket plastic case) and 2 magazines (one of which was actually a 6906 magazine!).
I thought that was a pretty good deal. It's hard to judge value today with so many people down on .40's. I think $600 is too much, but I could see one in top condition selling today for $499 without too much trouble.

As others have said, it comes down to box, papers, and other extras. Aim Surplus has some LEO trade in 4013TSWs right now. I just ordered 1 for me. I’m assuming 1 mag, no box and no papers. Pictures representative of condition looked to me as “Good”. $360+ tax and shipping, coming just short of 4 bills.

Thanks for the advice guy's. The guy selling the gun has the original matching case.10 S&W magazines, which 4 of them have red butt plates.(anyone seen these before?) Trijicon sights dated 2014, trigger work. Houge grips (has the stock one, which is new) one leather holster, double mag pouch and finally, about 300 rounds of 40sw. He will only sell as a package deal. I collect S&W semi's. I thought it might be a tough gun to find. I've seen tons of regular 4013TSW for sale. This is the first time I've seen this version for sale.

To me, those mags and ammo are a couple of hundred right there, if not more. That sounds like a perfect carry rig assuming the trigger isn't messed up.

I believe I read in another thread that those were CHP range/qualification magazines.

So, you’re sayin’ the $600 price is the entire package? That’s a totally different kettle of fish.
As a side note, why does someone pay for all that stuff and not shoot the gun? You’re sure it’s been shot very little?

That's the pre-rail TSW, not the regular version which has a rail. Generally, pre-rails seem to be the preferred if given a choice.
The pre-rail 4013TSW was made from 1997-1999. The railed 4013TSW was made from 2000-2006.
I have two pre-rail 4013TSWs, one MSE78xx & one MSF52xx, which is a CHP model. I have other pre-rails too. Good pistols.
The 2014 Trijicon's would obviously have been added after it left the factory, which would add value to it & help make the asking price a bit more palatable.
Under the price sticker will be the Sec. Ord.# which will tell you when it was made. (I'd be interested in seeing what it says. The Product Code could indicate if it went back to S&W for a re-fresh & sale as a "Used" pistol.)
The red followers are range/training mags. My CHP model had them with it too but I swapped them for a couple with blue followers the LGS had with another pistol. Nothing wrong with them though, of course.
The CHP models do not have a trigger play spring installed & have an inventory serial number on the right hand side.

Yes, I work at a gun shop. I had my boss who is also our gunsmith remove the slide. He said it looked practically brand new internally. His story is that it was given to him by a friend who got it in a package deal with S&W revolvers. Not being a semi guy he gave everything to this guy who is his childhood friend. Since my last post, I've been doing some research on the magazine's. The two 10 round S&W mag's seem to be worth about $55. The mag's with the red bottom plates are S&W LEO live fire training magazines. I've also Googled it and found out that they call this version the pre rail model and their getting hard to come by. I really don't want all the extra stuff unless I knew I could sell it. I think at this point I feel comfortable offering $500 with him probably coming back at me with $550. From what I've seen online this seems to be the price range for the condition. Here's a picture of one that sold on Armslist without the extra stuff.

Yep. Now the asking price starts to make sense.

The pre-rail 4013TSW uses 9 round magazines. You can typically get them at shows and on-line for $29-$39 each if you are patient. I've paid from $29 to $33 for mine. The red bottom magazines usually go for less since who wants "training" magazines? I've seen them at shows for as low as $15 each and still not selling.

After reading about all the goodies that come with this Model 4013 Tactical, if you can get it for $500 to $550, you have done well. At $600, it's a fair price, but not a bargain.
