Default SD 356 TSW

Having searched and searched but could not find a recent post; a member reference was given re 356 pistols.
Our member was noted as an experienced seller/consignor on GB too. Anyone recall or can advise. Thanks, Dave

Maybe I'm having brain fade - but, what are you trying to determine about the pistol shown? It's NOT obvious to me.

I will probably get blasted here for saying this but I have never been enamored with any of the S&W semi autos with the safety/decocker on the slide as so many of them are. They are in an awkward spot to use as a safety. pushing up on the safety is not an easy thing to do so the best way to carry one of them is with the safety deactivated and just shoot it double action for the first shot etc. I am used to the browning designed, frame mounted safety that is where god and JMB intended it to be. I have used that style of proper safety for so long that is just feels right. None of the 39's, 59's and all those after that work for me.

Umm, well then, I don’t exactly know what to say after/about “Marshal tom’s” helpful advice. Guess I need not say anything.

I think you looking for the seller sarah15 on Gunbroker. He may responded to your post here as he does hang out here.

That looks like a great example, check completed auctions to get an idea of what they’re going for.

There was a recent post re this caliber (356) and these guns. OP brought up Selling and Valuations. A member here sells on GB. Noted he is versed in the not so typical 3G.
He sells rarer and consignment pieces. He is established on GB and is able to get $$$ due to experience, etc.

I could not refind the post. Looking for the post and member reference. Have ???'s/info looking to secure.

My interest was current valuation range. I've had this for some time and never really gave it a thought. Along with the pistol goes BNIB Federal Gold Medal 147g FMJ Match-650 and Federal Premium 147g HydraShock JHP-180

“Along with the pistol GOES ammunition” ??? Hmmm.

Is it “going” somewhere?

Well, if you were simply looking for a value estimate... the market is fluid and your in particular exists in an odd place because you appear to be in California. No effect on the market typically UNLESS you have two motivated bidders and one or both are in California.

That's a wildcard for obvious reasons.

Hey HYPURR, sorry for the chilly reception. Things are usually much less antagonistic 'round here. You asked a pretty straightforward question about a rather rare item. Wish I'd known the answer for you. I recall seeing the recent post you'd mentioned, but I didn't remember those details. Sorry.

Good advice already provided above on contacting @jjbrewst1 (Sarah15 on GB).

This might be the prior post to which you were referring--3566 sell prices?.

The SD 356 TSW is one of the best-looking pistols every produced from the Performance Center, IMHO. I certainly don't blame HYPURR for holding on to his and, in the meantime, wanting to know its worth. I'm sure Jim was able to give him an excellent valuation, and I venture to say that this model is one that will steadily continue to increase in value. Keeping it with ammo to eventually include in a sale is an excellent idea, since as we all know, there's not likely to ever be any more of it produced.

I agree it is a good looking firearm, however, I like the black treatment that the Factory did to the 3566 pistols even better.

I think the 3566 Limited is Smith and Wesson's hot looking auto loader

As to ammunition, there have been several recent moves on that front.

As of today, two different manufacturers have recently run 356TSW brass for the US market.

There are three ammunition suppliers that are either already producing ammunition from those brass runs or are just getting ready to produce.

I expect that the meetings at the next SHOT show will yield some additional movement on this front

These things move very slow, but they move.

Extremely interesting news, colt_saa! And for the record, I absolutely agree with you about the 3566 Limited as the absolute best looking of the S&W autoloaders. I owned the compact version myself, and it was always a favorite.

By the way, it would be great to start a thread about these new developments in 356TSW ammo here in the Semi-Autos thread so we could all keep up with what's going on!

Marshal Tom,

You are correct about it being awkward to deactivate on the draw. The only department that I know of that required it to be carried in the "on" position was LA County SD. They also required their Beretta's to be carried that way.
Having worked at S&W as both an LE sales guy and trainer, we were always told that the slide mounted lever was never intended to be a safety. It's intent was as a decocker only and even came out with the spring loaded decocker that was available on all the metal auto-stuffers in the 90s. That was the same philosophy when I was still pushing a police car around in the 70's and we transitioned to the model 59 in 1975. Decocker only.

As luck would have it, I just came across a 3566 Limited (sn# TSW002x) at this weekend's gun show in apparent unfired condition & bought it.

Starline brass, my favorite, doesn't have a listing for 356TSW brass currently & I want to buy some if I don't sell the pistol, as is.

Who are you referring to as currently producing some 356TSW brass? I'd rather go that route than trim .050" off some new 9x23 brass.

.

WOW!

"As luck would have it" might be the understatement of the year! What was your inner reaction when you spotted that gem at a gun show of all places?

Quite a find, sir. Well done!

Thanks.

Surprised! And I almost didn't go because I haven't been feeling good. Definitely glad I went!

Glamour shots later.
