SW99 backstrap
Hi everyone,
I am new to the list and am trying to learn my way around so please excuse me if I stumble into the wrong area.
My wife purchased a second hand SW99 40 cal. for home defense which is fitted with the large backstrap. I am looking to replace it with the small one for her and can only find one advertised for the SW990 & 999. I have found no reference anyplace on line to a SW999 and as near as I can determine the SW990 is the same as the SW99 but without the decocker. Will the advertised backstrap fit the SW99. The ad gives a part # but I cannot find a SW # for the same part to cross-reference it with. If that strap is not compatible does anyone Know where I can obtain one? Thanks to anyone who can reply and I hope to learn a great deal from this valuable resource.

Hoff,
I have a small backstrap for the SW99 .40. Please send me a PM and we'll work out the details.

S&W part# 264740000 $10.25 X BACKSTRAP (SMALL)
Same SMALL backstrap insert is used in the 9/40 standard (full-size) frame, regardless of model (SW999, SW9940, SW990L9, SW990L40).
The .45 & compact 9/40 models used different inserts.

I am also looking for a small backstrap for a SW99. I called S & W, but no good. Midway is also out. Any guidance would be appreciated.

They are about as hard to find as any gun part I'm aware of. It's usually pure luck. Get on the Midway notification list for sure. Place a backorder if you feel comfortable doing that. It could take months or years, but they occasionally do get a few in. Be aware they they go super fast once in, so be prepared with a backorder or jump at the notification instantly.
Supposedly the Walther U.S. parts folks still sell their P99 version which is identical from what I can tell. Cost is said to be very high through Walther so be prepared to dig deep if you go that route.
Either way, let us know how you make out.

Numrich Arms 'shows' them for the Walther P99,but they are listed as being 'Sold Out'. Price for SM, LG back straps AND sight sets is $21.20. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufact.../P99-42531.htm

SW 99 Back Strap
Hoff,
if you find a small back strap for your SW 99 I would like your large back strap if it is in good condition. If anyone knows where I can get any sized back strap for and SW 99. Every where I checked is out (Midway, Numrich, Smith & Wesson, Brownells)

I think you folks looking for SW99 back straps would be better off calling Walter and asking for P99 back straps, and it that fails you could probably use PPQ back straps. I have a set of PPQ back straps on my MR9 (another P99 clone) and they fit, although the edge could do with a little filing to better match the contour of the grip. Still, an option if you are hard up.
