The wooden grips are just perfect on it! To me, wooden grips belong on steel guns. Both of my 645s have wooden grips. The plastic grips are in the parts bin.

Yes, the wood grips look good.
The adjustable rear sight looks odd though , not as clean as with the fixed sight.
Don't think there were many 645s made with that sight. I noticed the serial number ends in 0004.

I've found myself putting adjustable on some of my S&W's . My 645 I never found the need to , the sights are perfect the way they are . But if I ever came across one like yours , I'd jump on it . A beautiful 645 !

Congratulations on a nice find. I don’t see to many of us with adjustable sight 645’s on here.

Thanks Frank, I love the side profile of the 2nd and 3rd Gens with the "winged" sights. Most either love 'em or hate 'em, I'd like both but these are my preference.
The s/n is low numerically, but the 3 digit alpha sequence is higher than my fixed sight version. It does have the Philips screw safety lever attachment as opposed to the later Allen-head screw which would point to it being an earlier production. I'm going to have to check with Mr. Jinks on the shipping date.

By the serial numbers I believe yours is way earlier than mine. Mine also has the Phillips head screw.
Serial number prefix is TBW.

Nice 645! My later 645 w/fixed sights is a TAV prefix; it has the Allen head screw but I wouldn't rule out it being a mixmaster as it's rather obvious it's been cleaned up. It is fitted with the glossy black side panels, yours is only the second one I've noticed with them being a matte finish.

Shows how much I’ve paid attention. Had to peek at my collection, all my others are 3rd gen and they all have matte grip panels. Didn’t notice that there were gloss ones.

My fixed sight 645 has a TBR prefix, if that helps.

My fixed sight 645 alongside the new addition. I've always used scratches as a wear indicator on my plastic grip 2nd Gens. as they scratch fairly easy. I believe you are correct on the 3rd Gens. all being a matte finish.

I have seen stock 745 panels for sale on Ebay, they would interchange with the 645. I'm not sure who else might have some NOS or good repros but I'm sure somebody on here can point out the right direction. I'm going to be needing a set for my TAV as well.
I did a little research last night and mine, along with yours and Twistedracer's, appear to be 1988 productions from the s/n's. I also read where the very late production 645's did not have the half cock hammer position, mine does. Does yours? Twistedracer?

Well, I have to correct myself, my data was incorrect; mine is a late 1987, shipped in November (thanks Mr. Jinks for the shipping date)!

Mines a 1988. Just pulled her out of the safe to check, she’s got the half cock notch.
