1911 Magazine ???
I have a new to me SW1911DK. I have 2 eight round magazines and would like more. I've seen 1911 government, 1911 commander, 1911 standard, 1911 officers, 7 round, 8 round, 10 round... What will work and what do I avoid? Are all 1911 magazines interchangeable? I appreciate any and all information and direction. Thanks, Terry

You can use any standard (GI) size 1911 magazine. The standard GI magazine is 7 rounds, but many are available for 8 rounds and fit flush or nearly so. You can not, however, use the Officer sized magazines (6 or 7 rounds) as they are too short.
My PC1911 came with two 8 round MecGar magazines and they haven't given me any issues. However, I have a large number of Wilson 57D magazines (8 rounds) and some Wilson 10 round magazines that have worked excellently in it and other 1911 platforms.
Personally, I'm a fan of removable baseplate magazines like the Wilsons or the MecGars. The standard GI design with the non-removable baseplate makes for more trouble than I care for to break down and clean the magazine.
The Chip McCormick magazines are popular as well and are also good-to-go.

I use both CM and Wilson combats. McCormick normally found in 8 round and fit perfectly. For your own peace of mind, purchase quality aftermarket mags.

Any seven or eight round mag made for a Commander or Govt Model 1911 will fit. Mags are one are where you don't want to try and save money. Buy the best you can afford, they will last a very long time and the initial investment will pay for it'self as you don't have to replace junk mags every year. Stay away from anything made by ProMag and don't buy anymore of the S&W mags (also sold as Wolff and Novak) as they have a tendency to crack around the feed lips. The best made are Tripp Cobra Mags costing about $32 each followed by Wilson ETM's at approx $30 each. Standard Wilson 47D mags cost about $27 and are OK but sometimes have weak springs, McCormick Power Mags are very good and cost the least at approx $22. I also like Kimber Pro-Tac Mags and they cost about the same as the McCormick however they come with three different baseplates which is nice as you can pick the one that fits your gun best. My highest recommendation and it is shared by most of the top Gunsmiths is the Tripp Cobra Mag #8R -45 -RG, here is a link to their site, it is the only place you can get them. http://www.trippresearch.com/CVS/pro...1911/1911.html

Thanks all, I had read about the Tripp and several others. Just wanted to make sure that S&W was proprietary. I had deduced that the officer's was a smaller gun and might not work. Thanks again.

I meant to say "S&W wasn't proprietary".
