4566NS
Just saw a thread about someone just getting 4566. This is a series of S&W auto I know little about. Just so happens I acquired a 4566NS 25 years ago. I have shot it twice, no more than 100 rounds thru it by me. Did a little searching on the internet and found nothing about the gun except for a few lines on wikipedia. Can y'all give me some history on this series of guns or a good place to get the info?

Pictures would help. The 4566 is fairly common with quite a few variants.
Does the gun have 4566NS stamped on the frame or is 4566 NS marked on the box?
I have a 4566 with Night Sights that I regard as one of the finest firearms of all time. I carried one as a Deputy until I got caught up in the "40 cal. hi cap" debacle. When I retired I sold the "tupperware", kept the 4566!

Interesting. Looking in the SCSW Vol4 I don't see your production code (148575) listed as a variant.
What is your serial number prefix?

Based on your box label and serial prefix, your 4566 Night Sights, decock only, is likely an LE Special order pistol, made after the 4566 was "officially" removed from the public catalog.
LE agencies were able to order 50 or more, pistols per order. Up until around 2006. EKZ is one of the last serial prefixes used. Very nice gun. I look forward to your range report. Regards 18DAI

Thanks for the info, I was wondering about it possibly being a LEO special order.
Makes it all the more interesting.

Thanks for the confirmation; The fella I bought it from thought it had been a LE service unit as it had come from a large supply of 4566 from an Ohio gun dealer. The gun does not show much wear so I wasn't sure about it origin.

Review post #2. I was leaning this way but because more info was needed I left the door open.
My 4566 is the LE only version with night sights1 (Second set!)
All the best,

Did Trijicon make these night sights and will they still relamp them? I have the same set on my ex-LE 4566TSW.

Yes and yes. IIRC there is a request form on the Trijicon website. Regards 18DAI

Wonder why the box's S&W label says it's got a 5" barrel instead of a 4-1/4"?

the gun's serial number matches what is on the box. The barrel is not 5" long, close to 4.25".
