Congratulations Shooboy on a great find. It's in excellent condition. Much better than most you run across now days. While there don't appear to be a lot of us in the "469 Club", I have to agree with 586L-Frame, those of us that have them, tend to love them.

I bought mine new in 1983 and carried it for 25 years. I always found it to be very concealable, very accurate for a short-barreled gun, and most important, always reliable.

Enjoy it. Great pictures by the way and I'm sure we all look forward to a range report.

Here's a question for you 469ers. I have noticed in the pics above that the safety on the right side is capped. My 469 has an ambidextrous safety, but what if i would like mine to be nice a smooth on one side like the fine example above. Is there a way to make this happen?

Wow, nice looking 469s there 586L-Frame.
So, I did indeed shoot my 469 today and she ran absolutely perfect with both target ammo and a mag full of hollow points. Very mild recoil, easy to shoot, and nice and accurate. This will be my new carry gun in place of my J-frame 5-shot 38 Special. I sure do like being able to hit the target now and the additional 8 rounds makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I think this is gonna be a keeper for awhile. And the Browning Hi-Power Practical I shot for the first time today was fantastic. Great trigger pull, very accurate. Put a lot of rounds through my S&W 22A also. The thing is almost boringly accurate with the Tru-Glo red dot on it. What a fun .22 for very little money, everyone should have one of these in my opinion. Thanks again guys, I'm in the 469 Club !!! Woo-Hoo ! Shoo

dacoontz, I have seen a couple of 469's parted out from time to time on Gunbroker and that may be an option for replacing your ambi safety-decocker with the original left-side version.

Hope this helps.

The 469 was the very first auto loader I was ever issued in my LE career. Never gave a minute of trouble. We carried the 115 gr Silvertip in them. But back then, in this area, most of us didnt carry our guns-they road under to seat. Ah, Georgia in the 1980's!

Fallstaff,

Be sure to post-up about the work once done. Who-what-where. My 669 sat idle for nearly 15 years before it returned to action once I got a CCW 5 years ago. I've bought a M&P9 since and the 669 gets little use these days. I'd like to get a trigger job and have the slide milled for night sights.

Loved my old 669...until the other day. Had it for over 20 years. Noticed the frame had a little crack. Called S&W, sent it in. Pat from S&W called and said they no longer have the frames..but they wanted to make it good, so they sent me a brand new M&P 45 compact! What a company!! I'll miss that little 669 though. It was in good shape overall.

I have a 469 purchased in 1985. It has approximately 3000 rounds through it. Has been used to carry since 2004. Last month I fired two mags to stay in shape. When I went to clean the next day I found a crack on the left side just to the real of the slide release hole. I have two friends with one with a 469 and another with a 669, both had the same problem. They both send theirs back to Smith. Smith converted their guns to hybrids. 669 slides, and 6906 frames, because these frames are no longer made at no charge to them. Anyway I send mine to Smith in March, thinking I was going to get the same deal. But, no they want to sell me a new gun, because the my gun is out of production. Then to add insult, the so call special price they want to sell me a new gun for, is the same deal I can get at the gun show. I've been dealing with Smith for 23 years, and I never had the treat me this way. I love and own many Smith semi-auto pistols. The good news is I'm a up and coming fan of Springfield, with the XD series. If Smith is going to make me buy a new gun. It won't be hard to guess that it WILL NOT BE A SMITH.
