Just checked out the auction, it stinks of scam. The picture looks like its from another ad too. Looking at the the sellers other auctions, Buy It Nows, no gun descriptions, and no feedback, are telltale ways you can tell it was a scam. Hopefully the buyer catches it before sending payment.

I feel like I just fell off the turnip truck coming from the farm.
Im 72 and still too trusting. If it is a scam, is it a Federal offense?

May or may not be a Scam - good luck to buyer if it is. I got burned by a bait and switch on GB a year ago and never got any help from them even though I filed a claim. Last time I will buy from seller with No positive feedback.

Over the years I've been burned twice on the S&W Forum. Due to the actions of scumbags, I will only accept a check from ONE MEMBER, a person I've known about 15 years or so.

I've always been on the fence concerning GB, posts like this support those reservations. I used to buy a lot of guns from Cabela's back when you could have any gun shipped from any location for a $25 fee without being obligated to buy it if it didn't meet expectations. Since the Bass Pro merger, this is no longer an option. Most of my acquisitions are still made local and an extra bonus are the many friendships cultivated at the local shops.

Well, I hope somebody got a good trouble free buy on a great gun.
Call me what you may, but a little faith goes a long way.

I'm with you there, always like to see when anybody makes a good buy, or sale for that matter! I always hate the comments that suggest that a buyer cheated someone on a deal where the seller sets a price and the buyer agrees to it. Same goes for a counter offer accepted by the seller. I always like to think that most people have good hearts and conduct business in a professional and ethical manner; sadly we do have less than scrupulous people all around us, sometimes even within our own families. I closed a business many years ago with outstanding receivables exceeding $20k, most of which were owed by people that had asked me to trust them. On the other hand, I had many that lived up to their word, so now I'm still a believer, just a little more cautious these days.

I think the key is feedback on auction sites - the total absence of feedback or significant negative feedback on auction sites is a red flag. The other red flag is how long the seller has been selling on auction site or S&W forum and his interactions on forum. Its unfortunate buyers are not allowed to post feedback on classifieds here.

Seller now has an F rating from 1 buyer (also NR) who claims seller is copying other ads and selling non existent (or at least not in his possession) guns.

A steel frame 39 that comes in .22 short, is a Model 13, from a buyer with a F rating....

What could possible go wrong?

Actually he was NR (Not Rated) when the 39 sold. He just received his first rating today, which was the F. He has 3 or 4 unsold listings - expect they will be pulled off. Hopefully purchaser of 39 has not paid yet and sees the feedback.

I don't know who owns it now but the last time I saw the gun in question it had its original box and a letter.

For me, if the person in question is a fellow SWCA member, I've found them to be 100% reliable. I ordered an original revolver box from David Carroll recently, and I received the box very shortly thereafter - he did not receive and cash my check until I already had the box. I have had similar experiences before.

I suspect that no SWCA member wants to have a reputation as a deadbeat or scam artist, and to my knowledge, none are. Uniformly, my experience is that they are good as gold.

I’m not sure where you got that idea from, but it couldn’t be further from the truth.

We have an entire classifieds sub-forum dedicated to nothing but feedback. It dates back to 2008. Like our rules and Stickies, we’ve done our best to hide it from the membership by giving it a cryptic title (FEEDBACK).

It’s easy to use. Simply go to the Feedback forum, click “Search this Forum” and enter the members username. It does need to be spelled correctly, so I like to copy and paste it from the members profile page.

I used myself as the example in this case. Clicking “Go” yields 38 FB threads going back to 2010 (all positive I might add).

There have been 2 other "Verified Sellers" on that auction site with items I was interested in but NR (No Ratings) - fortunately I did not bid as they now have multiple F ratings for scamming. One seller had an A+ for buying but that was in 2013 and no activity since 2013.

Combined with this seller who was also "Verified" by auction house, that makes 3 scammers I have personally observed in last week - 2 of which have been removed but at least 1 buyer was convinced to pay via Paypal and it appears he is not getting much support even though Sale was "cancelled" by auction house.

I will be looking very closely at activity and sorry but not buying from new sellers with NR or new members.

But on the other hand, I sent a slide and barrel off to a member and USPS delivered his slide to him same day they delivered his check to me.
