Well, you may not like her, but I sure do....

Here she is, a 4506-1 worked over by BMCM after a fouled attempt to mount a rail, figured might as well have him do some other stuffs to ol'girl...

Rail mounted, a duty action trigger job that rivals any PC I've ever felt, night sights, crowned barrel, spurless hammer, flat wire recoil spring conversion, 745 mag release and last but not least Decock only... She's sweet

She will have a surefire x300b mounted 99% of the time and the dedicated holster allows comfortable carry.
The holster is a Standard Course x300 dedicated holster with a Blade-Tech paddle, carry and rides very nice...

You ask yourself....Why?.... I say there is no better offering in 45acp in a DASA platform, but that's just my 2c...

Uh, actually... I really like the 4506-1, and I really would like to own one someday. Honestly, the only DA/SA .45 ACP handgun that I like better is the H&K USP45 Elite.

I looked hard at them, my local shop auctully had one on consignment, it just didn't feel right to me so I opted for the 4506.....

Think ill try some 45super as well

It's not the gun, Eric.

It's the rail...

Don't get me wrong, I like rails on guns.

I got more than my share of 3rd gens with rails.

Best way to mount a light, if I want one.

And I like yours.

You made a good choice with the Novak rail over the S&W accessory rail. (Maybe if the S&W add-on rail were Picatinny style like the integral rail...)

And the other upgrades are functional and tasteful.

But there will always be a hardcore contingent on this forum for whom add-on light rails are more annoying than Rachel Maddow! :D

My compliments to Bill on his "Carry-Light" package for your 4506-1.

John

I love my 4506. We were issued them after we traded in our 645, shortly before I retired. It has been to the range once, 50 rounds. It was carefully cleaned once again, and has had a special place in the safe. I prefer the alloy frame pistols for carry, such as the CS 45 & 4513TSW, as I no longer wear a uniform. I love the DA/SA type of pistol.

Really like 4506's and yours looks nicely enhanced.
I don't even mind the rail. Love 4506's and they are reliable as can be, but carrying around that big beautiful heavy chunk of steel all day is not something I would even consider now.

How did the trigger come out after reworking?

The trigger is the best DASA I've felt next to my 1066, also done by MR.BMCM.... if you want a trigger job done!? Send it to Bill...

My Smith & Wesson .45ACP automatic journey began in the Mid-1980s. I was an "Authorized Dealer" in those days, and got an early Model 645 as a "Dealer Sample." I still have it. Being a DA/SA automatic fan, I liked the 645 better than any 1911-pattern pistol. (The is heresy for a Colt collector!)

I never liked the square trigger guard shape on the Models 645 and 4506, so when the Model 4506-1 with the round trigger guard came out, I had to have one. I now have two Models 4506, one with fixed sights and the other with adjustable sights. Bother are early ones with silver triggers.

I too prefer the H-K USP45 to the 4506-1, but the FN FNX45 trumps both in my opinion. The FN has 14+1 capacity and is fully ambidextrous.

Over the years I've had a 4506 and a 4505; a 4516 and a early 6rd 4513...... but settled on a early fixed sight 4566 (silver hammer) as my keeper.

I was a .45 1911 guy through most of the 80s.... never really comfortable with cocked and locked carry; just before the 3rd gen guns were introduced I got a W. German Sig P-220 with the American mag release. I fell in love after added Hogue wood grips. Later added a 245 Compact for concealed carry.
