So I just bought a mint looking 422, today I was going to shoot it for the first time……every round fails to be fully extracted from the chamber. I tried three different ammo types and it was the same thing after every round. Above pic shows the situation. What is the fix needed? Extractor?

My first recommendation, as with any new (or "new to you") firearm, would be a disassembly, inspection, and thorough cleaning and lubrication. Check the internals, including the extractor and magazines, for damage. Be sure to include the magazines in your cleaning.

If the cleaning and re-lubrication doesn't have the desired effect, next up would be a new recoil spring. If OEM springs are unavailable, Wolff offers spring of different rates.

If you still have the same issue while attempting to tune your new recoil spring to the ammo, and have ruled out physical damage to the magazine itself, the next replacement would be the magazine springs, or new magazines, if the existing ones appear damaged.

Ammo, as always is also a key component in this scenario, so be sure to try different types and brands of ammunition.

Make sure the chamber is clean clean clean.Yes..rimfire is dirty..but old caked on grime makes the fired cases difficult to pull out of the chamber. Even revolvers with grimy chambers will be hard to extract.

Make sure the extractor is working properly (full range of motion and check to be sure the spring is not broken!
There is a great video on YouTube that covers the complete disassembly of the 422 which I have used in the past to answer questions or issues.
I have a 422 and love it, but the extractor can get gummed up due to as mentioned above, the dirty nature of 22 ammo.

Check the side plate screws as well, they can loosen over time.

I have three 422/2206 series Pistols. I suspect a
problem with the Extractor a problem especially
when you said Pistol was “Mint Looking”.

The Extractor on one of mine was not right. My “Mint
Looking” S&W 2206 prior owner tried doing something
with it. My other Pistols were new in the box
someone’s safe queens.

The Extractor was not sitting even in its slot, bent,
and not gripping the 22lr rim, riding over it sometimes.
Also the tip was not pointed or sharp or angled correct.

Not ripping the shell out the Bolt then crammed the
next cartridge forward causing a jam.

I purchased an Original Brand Spanking New S&W
Extractor and Magazine Release toggle. That fixed
it.

Coincidentally I was just shooting the S&W 2206
the other day. After all these years it works as
it should.

The best to you and your endeavors.

Since it has been thoroughly cleaned, try another mag first.

Make sure the barrel nut is tight.

Inspect the condition of the extractor.

Is this your only pistol of this series?

If not swap a slide from one of the others and see if the issue is resolved.
