Talking 457 compatibility

Hello my fellow S&W connoisseurs. I have a question for those of you with extensive 3rd generation history and experience. While it may seem silly, the availability of 457S slides at Numrich gun parts has forced me to this question. It is, will a 457S slide fit and function on a 4506-1 frame? I anticipate there would be some issues, but the recent lack of 3rd generation availability is making me consider getting a shorty slide rather than getting a whole (expensive) gun. I recognize that maybe it's short-sighted and maybe not even possible. Yet, I really need to know and I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere no matter how hard I look.
I appreciate the input and even the criticism that this question will entail. I know many of you have extensive experience that I'd like to tap into.
Kindest regards,

E. VETTER

Based on a conversation about using a 4516 slide on a 457 frame, it will probably fit, but the 457 slide is a bit longer so it will probably overhang the rear of the 4506 frame. "Probably" is the operative word as there may also be differences in the slide rails.

You might be better off if you can find a used 4516 slide.

Not a definitive answer, I know, but it's the best I can do.

This is my 457 with a 4516 slide. The slide is about an 1/8” shorter than a 457 slide. Functions just fine and is more aesthetic than the 457 slide.
