Default Where’s guzzitaco?

It dawned on me that we haven’t seen anything from my favorite artiste in S&W semi-autos lately. Where have you been friend Guzzi? Is everything OK? When are we going to see some more of your special kind of eye candy?

Hi Froggie...

Busy, busy, busy...job at the port is tough and the drive is killing me...

I check the forum everyday...I really like it

I keep working on pistols...every day...I enjoy it tremendously...maybe someday I will do it as a my main job...

This is a M5906 "Alaskan" that I finished last week. Called it "Alaskan" because it has the front serrations a bit further back as some M4006 from some State agency in Alaska.

Decided to customize the hammer, so cut the radius like a PC hammer, then re-blue (hot blue).

I like a lot how it looks...owner is happy !!!

hope you guys like it...
more to come...

Guzzi

This is a good example of your work “finishing” what the factory should have done. Tasteful and we’ll executed.
Don’t you just hate the way going to work gets in the way of important stuff like making guns beautiful (or is that beautiful guns)? Thanks for the appetizer, but now I’m hungry for even more pictures of your work.
Be well, my friend and stay in touch.
Froggie

The 3rd Gens were not designed as works of art. They were always meant to be service pistols. If the Army hadn't messed around with the trials, the 659 would have been the standard US military side arm, not the Barretta.

In turn that would have lead to the 5906 and other 3rd Gens.

The Value Line guns were an attempt to lower production costs and as a result the machining was simplified and lower cost parts were used where possible.

What guzzi does is beautiful work and I have a gorgeous 457 slide that he worked over for me. That level of work, even if done with CNC machines would have lead to an earlier demise of the 3rd Gen guns due to be non competitive on cost.

The guns left the factory as intended and dominated the LE market for a good stretch of time. Their being phased out was a boon to us because we can get great guns at what were up until recently bargain prices.

Let's enjoy that for what it's worth.

/soapbox.

Can you elaborate on that? I know S&W sued and lost but I’m very light on details.

There are a bunch of different versions of the story, but IIRC the Army wanted either Sig or Barretta and found reasons to disqualify everyone else.

The SEALS ended up with the Sigs because their test Barretta had a slide failure that caused an injury.
