5906 pre ban questions

I have been searching this site and the web in general but I guess pre-ban questions are a low priority now.

Can anyone confirm if the 14 round mags are pre-ban or not?

Is it possible to identify if any of the 5906 mags are pre-ban or not?

Were they marked "LEO Only" in those days?

Most of the 5900 series mags I have seen by S&W were 15 rounders?

That was what we were issued with our duty weapons when I first started in law enforcement.

The magazine ban ran from 1994 through 2004 and I started in LE in 1998. After a short stint with what I grew to call the "Stigma" we went back to the 5900 series of pistols and I had a 5903. Some after me had 5906s.

I think the 5906 was made from 1989 through 1999, or so, but I am not 100% sure on that.

I can tell you that unless you went through LEO channels you could not find magazines for sale over the 10 round limit at that time.

I can also tell you that the magazines that came with my 5903 were not marked with anything other than the S&W logo. There was no markings indicating that they were "Law Enforcement Only" and they were 15 rounders.

So I would say that some post ban magazines that were LE only could be out there with no markings.

The only 14 round magazines I have are from a 5904 . The 5906 that I have came with 15 round magazines. I do have a 5946 that came with 10 round magazine during the Ban time frame and any 14 rounds would be pre-ban because they would be from the very late 1980's.

I bought a 5906 in Feb of 1989. They had just come out onto the market. It came with 14 round mags. If I remember it came with 2 I purchased another 14 round mag later that year.

I do not remember when they started but all my other mags are 15 rounds. None of 15 round mags are marked with anything about LEO. Since the ban was not until 1994 the 14 rounders would be pre ban.
