Anyone have one of these that letters to KSP? Logo on slide that letters to them or a police distributor? Dr Jinks lettered this one but the it makes no mention of KSP. Bill Cross suggested that I send a request to our site "Questions of Roy Jinks. He has not responded yet. The letter says it was shipped to Bill Hicks & Co. LTD, Plymouth MN. on 2/13/1991,returned to S&W on 7/30/1991 by Bill Hicks Co. Minneapolis, MN. and was returned to this company on 8/7/1991. The ATF History Transaction Summary reflects this record. I have seen several logos on various automatics that are factory with this one looking to be factory.
I am at a loss why/how this gun was shipped to Bill Hicks & Co. I asked Dr. Jinks in my question to him if this was an overrun and. put into inventory? Any help/comments from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks Fred #2968

This is just a guess, but unless KSP used an MN distributor to purchase their guns this one probably was one of an overrun.

The mystery is the return; perhaps a local LE (MN) agency bought and then had it sent back? Roy may not have any information or insight on that.

I have a Colorado State Patrol marked pistol that was provided as part of an Evaluation Program. A different model was selected and my pistol shows a return to SW and subsequent shipment to an unrelated major distributor for retail sale as a "used pistol".

Just wondering if it went out to someone for evaluation and was returned to SW after it was not selected and resold.

Kentucky used those for a couple of years.
I kick myself in the *** for not buying one years ago when they transitioned to the Glocks.
KSP sells its surplus guns mostly through local dealers like Centerfire.
The Smiths were sold through KYimports before they lost their FFL.

I have had one for 14+ years now, but I never bothered to letter it

I bought the KSP as a regular shooter so that I could keep the other one pretty :)

UPDATE:
I contacted Bill Hicks & Co LTD in Plymouth MN this AM. A young lady helped me but she could not locate the serial # in their records. She does have another source that she will be contacting to see if there is info. She does not know if they were a distributor for law enforcement in 1991 but we both thought it was odd for them to have been a distributor for state of Kentucky. She took my email address and will send any info she finds. More to come, I hope.
Fred

I don't know if this was true at that time, but as of a couple years ago there is a robust bulk purchasing program in MN that any state or local government can use. My client (in WA) did so with at least one purchase.

Several emails to Bill Hicks & Co have not produced any solution to this. June 12 email says "we have no record of it coming back to us after the recall". I have an an ATF Transaction Summary that says it was returned to Bill Hicks & Co on 8/7/91. It appears that Bill Hicks & Co has a problem with their record keeping. I submitted another email to day that says your response does not satisfy this problem. I did not say but was thinking that maybe the ATF would like to know they lost the gun.

I would if I were you, then ATFE could confiscate it from you while they do an investigation of the problem.

I'm the guy who sold the OP this gun. I bought it in an auction off gunbroker. All I can do is have my FFL guy look at his '21 bound book and see who I got it from. Looking back at my feedback on GB I can only guess who the seller was. I had just received a five figure inheritance right around that time so I bought a few new toys. GunBroker erases auction listings after 90 days.
