I saw a 5906 on gunbroker today with brown factory grips. I've never seen those before. Anybody know where I could get some?
Thanks

What were the grips made of? One of our members once had a set of grips duracoated in a medium brown color. Perhaps it was another one-time custom grip that you saw.

I don't think I've ever seen a set of the brown 5906 grips for sale, but I wouldn't be surprised if somebody had a set or two for sale somewhere. Back around '93 S&W made a run of stocking dealer special 5906S with polished flats on frame and slide and the brown, wood grain, Xenoy grips, with the curved backstrap if I remember correctly. I saw them for sale in a large gun store back then.

I know they had brown grips for the 3913/4040PD:

And "Dress Whites" for the 4006/5906:

Actually, I think that this is MY picture. I bought those brown duracoated grips from another forum member, but then sold them, along with a stock black grip when I sold my 3913.

As far as the pic from the auction, it's a pretty cool looking 5906. Too bad I've used up all of my gun money lately.

TMann,
Sorry,
I hijacked that picture from the classified some time ago, I did not know they were not original brown.
Thanks for the clarification on that.
I'm sure you are correct on the duracote.
Until that picture, I had never seen brown ones.
The "Dress Whites" for the 4006/5906 I do own and have never seen another set like them.
I do like the brown ones in that auction picture.
Regards,
BM1

No worries. I just wanted to clarify the brown duracoat issue.

Speaking of the auction photo, anyone know the capacity of those high-cap mags?

I believe the auction said they were 30 rounders.

I've got a set of those on my 5944.

They are factory brown. I'd love to find some more.

They were indeed Factory....It was a once offered Deluxe version of the 5906 offered in the mid '90's.....I think it came with polished flats on the slide too. Very limited run....I don't know if it was Factory or an RSR gun. I was with a friend when he bought his. Those plastic grips were made to look like wood. Nice find. Zebulon

Zebulon is correct: 1993 stocking dealer special. Polished flats, wood grain grips. Factory run not RSR. I have one NIB hanging in my safe just like it.

That would be so cool. Just curious, does your pistol have the round trigger guard or square? I'd really like to see a picture.

Not a problem. Mine has rounded trigger guard. I will post pics if some one can help me figure out how to post them. If I hadn't spent all my gun money on reloading supplies over the last few months the one on GB would have been mine to. I have 2 boys and need another one for the youngest so they don't fight over them. I can't even figure out how to drag one of those smiley faces into my post!!

To post pictures on the forum you must first upload them to an online photo website. I think most people use photobucket.com. That's the one I use. You have to register with them to use it, but it's a free service. Once you register with them you can then upload the photos that you wish to share on this forum. After you have uploaded them, you simply copy the image code and paste it into your message on the forum. Then the picture will show up in your message on the forum. Only thing is, you need to leave the picture on your photobucket album. If you delete it from your photobucket album it will then disappear from your message on this website. It sounds kind of complicated at first, but once you experiment with it it's pretty simple.
Oh, and those smiley faces, just click on the smiley face icon on your messge you are creating and it will give you a dozen or so to choose from. Click on the one that you want and it will appear on your message where your cursor was at the time.

I've got one of the 5906 SE "Special Editions" that I bought NIB in the early/mid-90's. Carried it as a LEO duty weapon for a couple of years.

FYI, the brown wood look is a thin layer that is glued or something on top of black grips. Mine has a couple of spots where it has been nicked and peeled.

Yes, I have a 5906 SE and the Dealer sales book insert that goes with it. I just ran across it by accident at a gun store. The grips look fakey but what a super cool gun.

I have no idea how rare it is, I just know it is rare, it is LNIB. I wonder how many they made. I'm pretty sure they were 1993 only and went to stocking dealers only.

My LGS had one of those at one point but the grips looked like a sticker had been applied. I liked the look so I had a standard pair hydroprinted in Mahogany. I think the look great. There is a pic somewhere here on the forum.
