Default 41 slide stop / ejector

Is there any difference in the slide stop / ejector for the Model 41 and 41-1 ?

I'm not sure about the specifics of the 41 vs the 41-1.

But, I can tell you that when the model 41 first came out, the notch in that part which functions as the ejector was cut near the rear. So, the empty case was kicked out at the end of the slide cycle.
Somewhere in time, that part was changed. The notch was later cut much further forward. The result is, the empty case is ejected almost as soon as the case mouth clears the chamber.

Another difference between the old and new part is that it seems the older ejector/slide stop sat lower, with more clearance between itself and the notch cut for it in the bottom of the slide.
But, it's possible the part I'm looking at is simply more worn.
Anyhow, this is important because if the part sits lower, it makes the empty case eject slightly upwards so it hits the rear sight extension on the barrel. This leads to the infamous model 41 jam in which an empty case is stuck between the barrel extension and a new live round being fed out of the magazine.

Having said all this, I would speculate that for the model 41-1, chambered for 22 Short, that the ejector notch would be cut very much closer towards the breech than for the standard model 41.

Highmaster,

Yes, the ejectors are different parts for the models 41 & 41-1.

To convert a model 41 to a dash 1 you need five parts: a 22 short barrel; a lightweight alloy slide; a reduced power recoil spring; the ejector; and a 22 short, five shot magazine. S&W offered a conversion kit for the model 41 but, like the 41-1, it has been long since discontinued.

Per 6string
Having said all this, I would speculate that for the model 41-1, chambered for 22 Short, that the ejector notch would be cut very much closer towards the breech than for the standard model 41.

This is the correct description of the 41-1 ejector cut - Appx 3/16 to 1/4" deep. These are very hard to locate these days.
