I just acquired a 39-2 in very good condition. serial is A5287XX would the manufacture date be 1979??

If I am reading my 4th Edition SCSW correctly you are correct, your 39-2 SN would fall in the latter part of the 1978-1979 serial number range. So 1979 is a good estimated ship date for that SN.
