While cleaning my S&W9VE today after a range session I had my first failure. When I removed the guide rod/spring unit the end that goes against the barrel/chamber assy broke off and rocketed away, releasing the spring.
Guess I'll be calling S&W on Monday morning to get a new one sent out.

on my SW40VE durring cleaning I seen the recoil rod had some uneven wear. I called and asked about it, since it was plastic. SW CS told me thats normal. BUT asked for my info and in 5 days I had a new rod mailed to me free. Still using the original rod but have the new one , just incase.

How old is the gun and about how many rounds through it? I don't recall seeing any other postings about this issue so it might just be one unlucky occurrence.

It's 3 years old with several thousand rounds through it. It looks like it was just a failure in the plastic, not an issue to worry about.

According to S&W, if you are the original owner, you have a LIFETTIME warranty.

Quote:
1. Lifetime Service Policy

We will repair any defect in material or workmanship without charge to the original purchaser for as long as you own the handgun.
You might want to call LSG Manufacturing. They are the warranty service center. The contact information is on the back of your owners manual, but just in case you misplaced it, here it is:
LSG Manufacturing
10059 Hwy 1476
Comanche, TX 76442
(325) 885-2700
[email protected]

I sent my SW9VE down there for because of the infamous Sigma trigger and Frank Smith does outstanding work. I called him and he gave me his FedEx account number. I sent it out on a Saturday and had it back the following Thursday. To top it off, he apologized for taking so long! And unlike buying a gun, since you already own it, it can be shipped directly back to your house instead of going through an FFL dealer.

Good luck!
Scott

scottaschultz...thanks for posting the address and phone number. My 9VE is just over 3 years old, and that's old enough to have their old address and phone number, now disconnected, in the owner's manual.
Frank gave me all the info and told me to send it attention to him. He sounds like a real good guy.

I sent my wife's Sigma to Frank a couple of months ago to have the trigger smoothed out. Frank was very easy to deal with. Very prompt, very professional, and very customer oriented.

Wolff, the spring people, make a metal guide rod that uses a loose recoil spring..This allowes one to try different spring weights if you so desire..I use these in both the Sigma and the M&P..Don't trust the plastic..

I have heard that may cause a problem with the warranty and excessive wead of the slide. Not sure though.
I have put Wolff springs in some of my revolvers.
