YES!! According to SCSW 4th edition: "Unusual 4013's have turned up such as one in two tone finish with black slide, black hammer, black trigger, marked with the following 'Caution-Decocking Lever Automatically Returns To The Ready To Fire Position'".

The same book also refers to a "two tone Lew Horton Special ca. 2001 possibly using up remaining parts....one observed in the VKN9xxx s/n range".

Sounds like you have somewhat of a unicorn!

That one was listed for sale on GB last December - not sure if it sold.

A Group of 2 tone 4013 with decock only Specials VKN9517-VKN9672 were made in 1998 primarily for evaluation by Colorado State Police, but they went with 4006 Melonite as I recall. Most were marked with the CSP logo and an issue (officer?) number. The one you list is the only one I have seen with No CSP Logo.

There is at least 1 frame within the group - VKN9621 which is documented by SW as used as a replacement frame for a standard 4013 VAC4115

They were returned to SW and along with the unissued residuals (presumably the ones with no CSP logo) were sold thru Lew Horton beginning in 1999 I believe.

That is a sweet 4013 David. I had no knowledge of two tone, decock only examples. I’m partial to the 3rd Gen and PC two tones, (NOT Zanders,) and that 4013 is really special.

Looks like the “rebuilding” of your library is coming along nicely.

Jim

Further digging of previous posts indicates 150 of the 2 tone 4013 sent to Colorado Dept of Public Safety for Colorado State Patrol evaluation in 1998. These are from the S/N group VKN9517-9672 and appear to be the ones with CSP logo on slide and match marking of S/N on right side of frame, slide, & barrel. These were apparently returned to SW and resold thru Lew Horton.

Per my letter from Roy - mine "was originally shipped from the factory on January 16, 1998, and delivered to Colorado Department of Public Safety, CSP Support and Service, Denver, Co. This pistol was shipped with a 3.5-inch barrel, satin finish, and black wrap around grips. This pistol was returned to Smith & Wesson on April 13, 1999 and resold as a used unit to Lew Horton Distributors Inc. Westboro, MA on September 2, 1999." Other than that, my letter was disappointingly generic 4013 info.

From another source (unverified) there were either 37 or 57 additional pistols (overrun or surplus?), also said to be from the same VKN9517-9672 serial number set, that were shipped directly to Lew Horton (ship date unknown - presumably 1999 or later - but all case labels seem to be 80xx). These did NOT have the CSP logo and it appears they were not match marked on right side - presumably like the one in original post. These appear to be confused with Lew Horton Specials mentioned in some literature but in fact they were overrun/surplus not "Lew Horton Specials"

A diligent observer will note that 150+37=187 or 150+57=207 while 9672-9517=165 so there is some conflict here. Also the VKN9621 frame is documented in a SW repair letter as having been used as a replacement frame for VAC4115.

So best guess about 125-150 with CSP logo and match S/N on right and maybe 30-60 and possibly some outside VKN9517-9672 range, but I doubt anyone can really pin down. So are the CSP logo units more or less valuable than the non-CSP overrun units? A well used CSP unit (photos attached) with matching case and aftermarket grips just sold for $1200.
