I have a few. A S&W 4046 police trade in , a Ruger P94 DAO .40 and a .40 Chiappa Rhino
I like .40, I carried a Glock 22 years ago when I was a nuke plant Guard, I always shot well with it

.40 was one of those instances where I had access to an abundance of ammo and needed something to shoot it in. The organization that I worked for provided me with a significant amount of .40 caliber ammo, even after I gave away 4,500 rounds to coworkers, I probably still have 7,000 to 8,000 rounds of factory ammo. I ended up with a Glock 23, Glock 27, HK USP.Compact, a Kimber Custom II, a Ruger PC4 and a Ruger Vaquero, all chambered in .40. I was afraid I'd wear it out if I only had one.

My EDC is a Shield in 40 S&W. I only have a handful of others. Two Shorty 40's, One Springfield EMP, and one SIG P229. The Shorty 40 seen below is unique, as it was a display model used by S&W salesman to distributors, according to my letter of authenticity. The other Shorty 40 is a MKII.

Surprisingly in that it has a black ambi safety/decocker. I’d be interested to know which of the of the @ 500 per 3 runs of @ 1,500 + it is. Mine came with a flashed chromed ambi but I think it was a replacement.
Is there anyway you could post a redacted partial image of your, (I’m assuming S&W,) letter? I only have something from Earl/LH. It would be interesting to see for comparison, maybe more information.

I have a semi-oddball. It’s a 4043 that was owned by the Memphis Sheriff’s Department. I made a ‘placeholder’ bid on GB and ended up being the winner for cheap. It’s buried in the back of the safe so no photo. The DAO trigger isn’t nearly as smooth as my 1086 but with the alloy frame the recoil is almost as snappy.

I unfortunately don't have access to the S&W Letter at this time. I had a 3rd edition copy when I purchased that Shorty 40 in question. My serial number was not listed, so I requested the Letter. I now have a 4th edition and my serial number is still not listed. There is a Table of Lew Horton semi autos listed on PG 432 that give a more detailed look at the production breakdown of four groups of Shorty 40's. To the best of my recollection mine with serial # PCZ0313 was one of 12 used by S&W sales representatives. The left side of my slide has the words Performance Center, laser etched in black with the words stacked. Performance on top of Center.

Sorry to be such a PC compact geek but there are some really interesting things going on with your Shorty 40 but I think you know. The left side, (which would be cool to see,) being PC marked is unusual/not “normal” other than the PC Recon Billboards. The front cocking serrations are unusual/not “normal” other than the Recons also. (Unless you sent it to guzzi.) 🤡 Is the ambi decock only too?
I see what you meant by your Shorty 40 being “unique.” That it is.
*** Edit to add, I was slow to finally realize the PCZ prefix being different, special and important. ***

Not highjacking/drifting this thread ‘cause it’s still any relevant .40 right? Maybe start a new thread about your PCZ prefix Shorty 40?
PCZ prefix, front cocking serrations, PC Billboard on left side, ambi. (decock only?) pre/experimental Shorty 40. (?) What was the mo/yr it left to the salesman, (s) as per your letter?
It’s so different than the finalized first production, (through 3rd.) Lew Horton Shorty 40 runs, (1994-1997,) and more like the finalized RSR 40 Recon run, (1997-1998.) Dates verified from my various letters. Of course w/o the extended ported barrel of the RSR 40 Recon.

I have a 4013, a BHP, a 229 and 646. They all work just fine. The 4013 has gotten to be my EDC lately. It has a Novak action job and sights. The 40 seems to be an inherntly accurate round and my ammo of choice is the 135 gr HP from Federal, really steps out of the gun smartly. I also have a supply of 165 gr HP, also Federal. Haven't shot anything but some select targets, but I believe it will stop anything I make a solid hit on.

Never owed one, and most likely never will. I prefer the .45 ACP. I don’t think that the .40 is dead, but I believe that it is not as popular as it once was. This is true with a lot of newer cartridges. It will lose a little bit more popularity each year, but most likely will be available in limited numbers. Not that the .40 is new. It has been around a little while, a cartridge between the 9 M/M, and .45 ACP. Kinda like the .41 Mag. that will never be as popular as the .357 or .44 Mag., but still a good caliber.

Had a Astra A-75 in .40 S&W for a time back in the’90’s that was my daily ccw. It was a fine little shooter.
Now I’ve been playing with a M&P .40 that was a LEO trade in. Awesome pistol & great accuracy with the factory 165 gn Speer GDHP load.

Quite functional with somewhat of a following and some advantages. Way too many out there to die - not like most of the other odd calibers 357Sig, 356TSW, etc.

I have many .40 S&W pistols to include three from S&W: a M&P, 4006 TSW CHP, and got a standard 4006 I bought a week ago for $400 USD with three magazines. I like the .40 S&W, started with at work 26 years ago, but carried a Glock 19 and 26 the past 22 years. If the prices, especially for 3rd Generation guns are cheaper on .40 S&W than 9mm, I will pick up .40 S&W. I have about 8k duty loads, so I am not hurting for quality ammunition

[QUOTE=madmikeb;141975243]I've always like .40's, but then again I like 10mm too!
I have a Springfield EMP and a 4013 TSW. Both are reliable as all get out!
I also have a 4013 TSW that was a kalyfornya Highway Patrol test gun. It had the heck shot out of it as part of their testing protocol. They were looking for a LW plain cloths gun for their investigators. I was the LE rep at the time and the three test pistols were on my sample account. I ended up buying one of them. It still shoots very well despite the number of rounds it has had down range.
If anyone needs a brand new 4006 TSW barrel, I have a few. Just PM me.

A pair of 4046TSW both converted from DA to TDA.
One will remain as a .40 and one will be .357 SIG

Taj , you're the only other person that I've heard from that had a CHP 4013TSW . I remember reading here some time ago that there were only something like 500 of them . Maybe you can shed some light on these and let us know if the 500 number was right .

They've been brought up & shown, off & on, in the past here.
When I got mine in the fall of 2017 (shown above in post #28) the CHP turn-ins had just started showing up around the country as the CHP was clearing out their old inventory at that time.
My local dealer had a couple so I grabbed the one that was virtually unused.
The other one had the CHP red training mags but I got the regular mags with mine.

Fairly early production example M&P .40 that I've been carrying regularly.
Soft shooting,100% reliable right out of the box with any ammunition, respectable combat accuracy, and 16 rounds in the gun with 15 round reloads.
What's not to like ?

Soft shooting you say? You must be lying! Everyone knows shooting 40s&w is the equivalent to shooting a canon.
