Default i bought an SW22-A1 at auction and it's on the recall list

i bought this SW22-A1 at auction and I am picking it up tomorrow in Tampa. The problem is that, just by chance, I ran the serial number and it shows up on S&W website for a defective slide that could cause accidental discharge.

I've already bought and paid for it, ($300 or so as shown), but now I am going to probably send it off the S&W to have it fixed per the recall.

I have never done this, so what is the process like? The website says they will send a prepaid sticker and I send it to them and they send it back. How long do you think this will take?

I probably should have spent another $200 and got a new Victory.

I mentioned in another post that my wife recently sent her Victory to the factory and got it back in 22 days. That's work days not mail days.

As far as the return label she got a email and printed it off her computer. Made up the package and called FedX.. All of that in about 5 hours.

So easy even a cave man could do it!

It's always good to think ahead but it may be a moot point until you have the pistol in hand and can verify whether or not it has the punch mark on the slide - https://www.smith-wesson.com/safety/...-safety-recall

I appreciate it and I saw that, but the way the S&W website lays it out, there were only a very few pistols that were relatively affected in just a few months of 2009, this being one of them...Mine also came up in a search as being affected

I'll know tomorrow...i am going to take that gaudy scope off of there forthwith.

I've heard the factory will sometimes try to make up for a recall's inconvenience by sending your gun back to you freshly cleaned or even with the action smoothed a bit. Maybe try returning it to them without the magazine and see if they will include a complimentary one for your trouble.

I have a 22S that was built ten years earlier. They are great plinkers not a Model 41 but, I would not trade a 22A or 22S for a Victory. Do the recall and enjoy safely thereafter and you buy a lot of 22 ammo for $200.

I echo those thoughts. When the Victory came out I wanted one but almost right away the negative posts about them started so I thought I would wait a while to see if the complaining stopped. It has lessened but I'm glad I have my Model 22A-1.

From my experience, they are very good at getting you the label. They are generally pretty good about communication after they received it. I think that they place a priority on warranty work, so it probably won't be all that long.

Perchance do you actually have a 22a, rather than a 22a-1? I can't find a recall on the 22a-1 but there is one on the 22a.

I had to send an imported gun back to Century to have the barrel replaced. The manufacturer had discovered issues with the steel used. The process was pretty painless, so I would hope dealing with S&W would be the same.

Just for curiosity, was this a FAL clone? I remember Century having all sorts of issues over some FAL's that they had assembled using original parts and new receivers and barrels.

Default Got the 22A-1 today

I drove to St. Pete today and got the 22A-1. Overall, it looks good albeit a bit dirty...Not bad for $280 out the door.

I disassembled it and the slide does not indicate the recall has been fixed. I called S&W and they verified via my S/N it has not been fixed, so a label was created and emailed to me.

So, I will send it back to them and see how it looks when I get it home. I took the BSA red dot off of it and overall, I like the design of the pistol a lot. When I get it back, I am going to cerakote the slide to match the frame.
