S&W Model 41 MFG Date?
I would like to get some opinions on the date this Model 41 shipped. The SN is 46070.
I found this in a local shop last week.
Thanks in advance for your input.

As an SWCA member, put in a Ship Date Request to Roy Jinks. The member site has moved to the SWCA site (theswca.org).

I had not realized the new site was active. I sent a request for logon credentials.
Thank you for the link!
To everyone else, I would still like to know the MFG date if someone has a good idea on the serial number ranges.

Dave,
Dating by serial number is an exercise in frustration! Here’s some examples from my data base:
#45464 and #46135 were both shipped in June 1964 so how do we explain #46377 being shipped in November 1963? Or #44742 that was shipped in March 1967?
We will have to wait on Roy to give us an accurate date but for now, my best guess is that your M41 most likely dates to the summer of 1964.

Thank you for the reply Mr. Bastogne!
I suspected I was going to find that there was no way to accurately date this gun by serial number, but when I originally posted I was under the impression that the SWCA web site was still shut down. I will just have to be patient and try to get a request in to Mr. Jinks.
