Just sharing a little project I've been working on. I've only ever seen one 3d-printed magazine sleeve for the longer 10/12-rd magazines, and I didn't love the design, so I started designing my own.

After getting the dimensions where I wanted (and many rounds of test prints), I printed a couple with PETG-CF filament. This is the end result.

Would love any feedback on it - what would you change?

Personally I would prefer to just use the gun as designed with standard magazines and plan on carrying one or two extras instead of trying to make it something S&W did not intend. I feel this is more in keeping with the makers design intentions for their gun! Just my opinion

Appreciate the sentiment, but it's worth noting that besides the obvious advantages in extra capacity and grip length, the 10/12-rd magazines can be had for $30-60, while the original 8-rd flush magazines now command $100-150 per unit. Purchasing "one or two extras" isn't financially viable for a lot of folks.

They look well made to me , you put a lot of effort into them . Are you just starting out ? There's a lot of other mags you could do this to , as well as bumpers that some PC mags used to come with .

First off I really like your effort and finished example. I personally don’t generally appreciate extended pistol magazines but I get it. I so far don’t have a 2213/14 but I do have some 41’s and 10 rnd magazines. If/when I get a 2213/14 I’d be interested. Price, don’t know maybe $25.00-$35.00 considering the cheapest 8 rnd one I saw was $85.00.

As was mentioned duplicating the Classic Pistol/CP Bullets bumpers would be great. Depending somewhat on the material hardness, magazine funnels, (again on some PC’s,) would be fairly lucrative.

Thanks for showing your excellent work.

Jim

Extension

Got the same little Smith 2214 and I'd love to buy a couple of them! One of my favorite hosts and having an extension would be fun plinking when not going full 007:)

PM me if you can spare or print 2 for me.

Thank you,

Fred

I always like when guys make their own something that they want, either because no one else does or its too expensive. Reminds me of my father who could build a house or fix a car, or anything else, just about. Also, the old NRA magazines, where guys always built stuff.

But I was also in agreement with ALK, UNTIL MGeo , opened my eyes about the magazines. That makes perfect sense, especially for practice sessions. I bid on one of the small ones some time ago, now I may look again.

A gentleman on the CZ forum was making these to use full size CZ75 magazines in Compact models. I bought several from him and they are very handy. In fact, I can use the 19rd magazines in my Compacts. And before anyone comes along and says you don't need the sleeves to use the longer magazines, true, however I like the added grip area.
I will admit that I used to think the concept was dumb, if you want a full sized grip and/or magazine buy the full sized gun. I bought a compact Walther for carry, and carried the short magazines for reload. The full sized magazines were more readily available and I realized that I could carry one for my reload, have more rounds, but have the shorter magazine in the gun for the concealment benefit of a compact handgun. The sleeves make it a no brainer.

They are fully compatible as they are and can be used as they were designed to be used in the shorter frames. Just like a lot of other guns with different length frames, the mag will just stick out the bottom. The grip angle, feed angle, and mag retention slot are all intentionally in the same location.

He's just offering an option to give you the longer full grip with an option akin to the Glock's "grip sleeve".

It may not be feasible, but if they could be made to match the checkering on the grips, they'd sell like hotcakes. That may not be realistic, I don't really know what the printing capabilities are.

I've got the whole series (422, 622, 622vr 4.5", 622vr 6", 2206, 2213, & 2214. I've also got the 41 which have a similar feeling and uses the same grips and mags, but operates differently.
I don't think I'd be interested in them as they are, but if they ever evolve into what I mentioned to above, I'd be down for several.

I believe it would be possible. But programming the printer to add all the checkering would be significantly more work. The printers lay down the plastic one layer at a time so every layer would need to be slightly different.

I'd be interested in a couple, just as they are. I have 3 or 4 of the 8-round mags already, but it would be nice to have a couple of 12-rounders for range use - less time spent reloading magazines is a good thing when range time isn't unlimited.

I carry a Sig P365 wit a flush fitting 10 round magazine and one in the chute (11 total onboard), but I do also have a few 17 round mag's as back-up that sit in my night stand. That magazine comes with a factory extender to do the same thing you printed yours for so the 17 round mag is about 1.25" longer in length. At a moments notice I can also just slip the extended mag in my OWB magazine carrier belt pouch, but usually just use another 10 rounder.

Carrying a pistol designed to be lightweight and compact & also suitable for as a pocket gun is all but defeated by making the grip frame longer and bulkier IMO. As a back up mag I think it's great but would not even add the piece you made as it once again adds bulk.

You did a nice job and wether or not you actually carry the gun like that really depends on you and how you deal with the extra length and bulk. I see its main function as a back up mag.
