On my shorter barrel I used a Weaver mount, it didn't require removal of the sight and did the job just fine.

I have C-More red dot sights on several handguns that I use in competitive shooting and like them a lot. Very durable.

I used a weaver #62 (from info on this forum), which fit perfectly on my factory tapped receiver. I got it from Brownell's which was $7.95 (with mounting screws), about a year ago. After agonizing for months, I finally opted for the Ultra Dot Matchdot. I like the fact that I can vary the dot size and brightness for various distances and disciplines. Its just a matter of what kind of shooting you do.

I use a Millet red dot, as it is reasonable priced and bright enough for outdoor use. Used it for three years now and no problems.

As above, I bought a Weaver #62 last week. It was very hard to find. Everybody was on back order. Finally found it at Gander Mountain for $9.95.
It's perfect for pre-drilled 41 without removing sight.
Already had an outrageously priced ($495) Aimpoint H-1. Wonderful - but not necessary for just the 41. I also use it on a Glock 19 - which is a whole lot harder on the device! When I change it between the guns, it keeps it zero.
I used to have a Matchdot. It didn't survive the Glock!

Thank you all for your input. Looks like a Weaver #62 it is. As for the Red Dot, my FFL has a couple of Bushnells. I have one on my Ruger MkIII which works well.

BobBurket,
I have been trying to get information on how the HV-1 performs. I am interested in using it on rimfire guns in NRA Bullseye competitions. Most folks use UltraDots [myself included], but the HV-1 looks like it should work well. Could you contact me at [email protected] to give me your thoughts? There are more than several of us interested in this product, but we have not had any feedback from actual users. And, as you point out, they are pricey. Thanks.

Anything special you need to do to mount the weaver rail and protect the top of the barrel?

Hey G ManBart,
That is the best looking set up I have ever seen for a steel challenge MD41. Who did the barrel?

It's made by Bully Barrels. He's made bullseye barrels for quite a while (with some major wins) and just made the first run of steel challenge barrels recently.
I had to fit mine to add a little clearance for the front of the slide rails, but it was easy...a little Dremel work and it's set. They're not cheap, but really cool. Total weight for the gun, no mag, as it is in the picture is 37oz.

Weaver Mount with Ultra Red Dot. Had it for years with no problem. Just don't forget to shut it off.

Weaver mount with an Ultradot Matchdot.
I had a C-More on it that offered better peripheral vision and is better for action shooting. For bullseye, the Matchdot is easier to precisely adjust but it's like seeing through a soda straw. Accordingly, it's better suited to stationary shooting than the C-More.
