My EDC is a 442 right now. It's little, light, I can shoot it fairly well. I carry it full of wadcutters with FTX in a speed strip as a reload.
I would like to carry a 9mm occasionally, but the best I can provide right now is an equalizer. I am not a fan of striker fired guns, and, if possible, I would prefer something with a hammer that I can see or feel in the dark.
I have an Equalizer, and am decent with that, but it is a little bulky to carry for me. I ain't no big dude, and carrying IWB is a major, major pain.

I have been looking at a CSX, but I know little beyond a review or two. It seems to be little enough and light enough to slip in a front pocket. The only thing stopping me from buying one is that I haven't fired one. I am a little recoil shy.
Does anyone out there have one, and can you provide some input specifically about their ability to shoot straight, stay on target for follow-ups, how easily it racks, and specifically recoil. Maybe compare it to the Equalizer. I currently own a Bersa Thunder 380cc (note the cc; not a regular thunder) and can handle it OK, maybe compare the recoil of a CSX to that? The Bersa is ok to carry, but I would feel a little better with a 9 instead of a 380. If someone has both the CC and a CSX that would be ideal.

Thanks.

I have a CSX and like it immensely. It’s as accurate as you can ask in a close-in scenario as it’s not a match gun but it’s not intended to be that.

I also have a Kimber Micro9 which is designed for the same use. It’s as good but the CSX fits my hand better.

Buy a CSX and I doubt if you’ll have any regrets.

I've had my CSX's since around the first of July. Prior to the CSX I had carried a lightweight micro 1911 in 45acp for the past 17 years, so I was very accustomed to carrying a cocked and locked single action handgun. The CSX carries 12+1 with the 1/4 inch longer magazine and it is still smaller and lighter than my beloved micro 1911.
The slide on the CSX is incredibly easy to cycle (should be a bigger selling point) and it has the slightly enlarged area at the back sides of the slide to give you a great area to help grab the slide.
I do not find the recoil objectionable at all but it is a full power cartridge in a small lightweight pistol with excellent ergonomics but the little pistol does require a good solid grip.
I actually own 2-CSX's and the one (with XS Big Dot Sights installed) is on my person every day when I am awake.
Between the 2-CSX's, I have had exactly 1 malfunction and that was within the first magazine loaded/fired in my first pistol.
Between the 2-CSX's I probably now have close to 1200 rds of 115gr, 124gr, 147gr FMJ & JHP ammunition, so I am impressed with its reliability.
I realize the gun was designed for close combat, just like the "Chiefs Special" "J" frames and as a result, 99% of my practice is at 15 yards and closer with most at near contact distance from the tuck/retention position.
I think you will find there are a couple members here who own the CSX and are very pleased.

First photo is 12rds at 7yds as fast as I could reacquire the front sight to the 2 1/2 inch x 4 inch head of the silhouette.
Second photo is my daily carry CSX with the XS sights.

Actually, I'd say the blowback .380 Bersa and the locked-breech CSX
9mm are very close in felt recoil, if not in actual ft-lbs. Neither is at all bad, and with practice both are easily managed for most folks. The CSX is snappy, no doubt, but the grip is quite good unless you have giant hands -- and some folks do.

At this point, I've had the original/s 365, Hellcat, G43, Stoeger Micro, and FN Reflex. The FN was/is the easiest too shoot. However, the CSX trumps them all in shootability. It's also the easiest in slide manipulation. They're all gone now, save for the CSX.

I can certify what post #3 says about the CSX. I also can state that I used to carry a full sized 1911. I have no problem hitting clay targets on the 50 yard berm and often pick the pieces also. A nice compact accurate gun.

Have one. I like it tho I admit I don't carry it often. I applaud Smith for going in a different direction but I can't see this ever being a big seller. Rarely see them on dealers shelves.

My EDC… 12r in my pocket in a Nemesis and 10r spare horizontal on my belt. Shoots fine at close range, never had a failure, recoil is not significant IMO.

It’s a Pocket Hi-Power!

Try it you may like it !

Love my CSX and it has Replaced my 365XL as an EDC. as it is smaller and more capacity, all metal, and like a mini 1911. I also have not had a mis fire in about 1,000 rds. If you can find one to rent at a range to try I recommend at least trying one. Also if you search the threads, you'll find more info and member reviews. Here is my CSX with my CS 9, and with other pistols to show size difference etc.

+1 on most of the comments above. If you do use it as an EDC in your pocket, I would use some kind of holster. The thumb safety is too easy to disengage. I carry mine in an Urban Carry holster with an extra mag on the front.
