At the firing range and a couple in the next firing lane asked me for help.
They had purchased a small 9mm pistol (S&W CXS) and could not get it to fire. I checked it and it had a full magazine with a round in the chamber. I then discoved it was single action . The couple had been attempting to fire it double action !. The clerk that sold it to them didn't explain that the weapon had to be hammer cocked for the first shot. Luckly it wasn't needed for first time self defense.

Empty the gun and back away slowly !!!!!!

? How/why did they get the hammer down and have a round in the chamber

There's a good question. Perhaps they had seen a video of how to lower the hammer slowly on a loaded chamber made by a CZ-75 owner.

I have one. Not sure what Smith was going for with this one. I like it well enough, it works, is decently accurate for a small nine. Soft shooting for a gun its size. Maybe that’s enough. I doubt it’s a big seller.

The trigger of the CSX is not a 1911 style trigger. It has a hinge and pivots at the top. Kinda like the S&W Plus, but with a heavy trigger pull. The field strip is a pain in the rear end.
The safety is unusual in that it can be activated with the slide and hammer in any position.
The internet does not like the trigger reset, I have no issue with it.
The feel of the CSX in the hand is Awesome.
The CSX is a solid gun that got a bad rap from the internet gun guru's.
I like mine.

They should just bring back the CS9 with the option of manual safety and DAO. Make them with the Delrin grips and not those fat Houge grips. The made them once before. That would be my carry gun. My shield plus is fine but I just prefer a hammer fired gun for carry.

I believe they were taking aim at Kimbers Micro 9 and the Sig 938.

I own both a Micro 9 Rapide and a CSX. In my opinion, the CSX is the hands down winner when it comes recoil mitigation, accuracy and overall fit. I shoot it better than any other pistol I own.. including an LC9, a P30SK and my Shield Plus. It's been my EDC going on 3 years and I'm contemplating purchasing a second one for a backup.

It's really no different than carrying a striker fired pistol like my Shield Plus, other than the exposed hammer, as I carry it locked and locked also. The exposed hammer allows me to reholster the pistol while thumbing the hammer to prevent any ND due to a cord or jacket material getting tangled up inside the trigger guard.

I have a Kimber Micro 9 and a CSX as well. I like the Micro 9 but the CSX is simply better. The Micro conceals slightly better but that can usually be mitigated by a good holster design.

I agree with all of this.... except the last sentence. Mine had reliability issues.

I'm sure the owner's manual discusses how the gun operates. Not every buyer is familiar with firearms. I happen to like the CSX and it's single action operation is one reason why.
It’s up to the gun store employee to explain the difference between striker fired, SA, & SA/DA. If not, he needs training. I ask what is the intended purpose of the gun, carry, night stand, or target. Many times, especially for first time women I suggest a revolver because they’re incapable of racking the slide. But I always make sure the customer is fully aware of the gun’s features.
