I've got the #170093 4" and the #170265 5"; I hadn't realized there were only 50 made for the '07 run.
I guess it will be tough finding one of those 5903's.
How did you ever find that one, Grinder?

Bob,
I am guessing production after talking to original buyers.
S&W needed 25 ordered to start the 170265 production
I actually have 2 of the 5903s
The one pictured is used and bought off this forum
The NIB one I paid $$$$ from a fellow collector off GB this year
SCSW3 says only 5 of the 5903's, but there was a second batch of 5 if my info is correct
Does your 5" have any lettering on the right side of the slide? This one doesn't

Yes, it has the Performance Center lettering; it's s/n DPA04xx.
Not the best pic, but here it is -

They are Performance Center 5906 IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Assiciation) pistols, originally produced in 1997 and in small runs occurring every so often since then.
I don't know if there is a current list; you would have to call the S&W Shooting Sports Center and ask. I e-mailed Peter Boruchowski there a couple weeks ago asking that very question but never got a reply. It was through him that I ordered my DPA's.

Thanks even old dogs want to learn new tricks. I have been shooting for years, Camp Perry, and the Nationals and then started PPC I have watched Cup matches at the old Chapman range as it is held in Columbia Mo 30 miles away. Saw a load of high tech revolvers especially from foreign shooters.I knew about PC but DPA?? Thanks I'm a little smarter now. Now if I can remember where I left my keys.....George

CQB,
The 5903 will probably get sold.
I never shot it, recently bought a NIB one, and have plenty of shooters.
I do like the sight very much.
It would be great with a F/O front
Sent you an email

Grinder-
Nice collection. Do you have a super 9? If so, how does it compare to the 5906 dpa 5"? Trigger, accuracy etc. Your thoughts please.
Thanks

Grinder,
What kind of finish is that on the 5903? Is it blue over carbon steel, melonite, ... ?

Dave,
Yes I do.
2 different animals
The DPAs are TDA, the Super9 is SA, C/L
The Super9 has decent accuracy, but it isn't a PC pistol
I just sold my Super9 shooter after having my 3566 Limited fitted with a PC 9mm barrel.
Got the double stack SA system covered.
I only shoot my 4" DPA- it is very accurate.

Malph,
appears to be standard matte blue like a 5904
I never saw an advertisement stating exactly what it is.

Grinder-
Thanks for the info, I guess I would prefer the 5906 DPA, but living behind the Iron curtain, first I have to find a LEO to buy it, then get sick of it and do a PPT sale at a FFL. Be glad you dont live here. I dont know how many cool pistols I have not been able to buy because seller wont ship to Cali, or pistol is not on the "not unsafe" handgun list...

I've got a Super9. Do you think S&W could fit a PC barrel with the Briley bushing to the Super9 slide?
Do you have any contacts/phone numbers at S&W that I could call?

The PC won't do it, I had a friend of mine make a tap for the briley bushing and tap an extra slide, I got the bushing set from briley and the barrel from S&W, it shoots as good as my DPA,the slide to frame fit is not as tight, but my Super 9 and my sons 5906 really rock now, I had purchased 5 extra slides and did 2 stock barrel and bushings and three PC's
