S&W M59 pistols were never made with steel frames. They were all alluminum alloy frame.
Only the very early M39 and the M52 were made in blued steel frames.

Try a magnet on it, if it sticks it is steel. If it doesn't stick it is alloy.
I use a refrigerator magnet with the cover on it to protect the finish.

The Steel Frames were the S&W 559 & 539.
I purchased one new back in the early 80's.

Question
Are you willing to let go of that frame? Mine has a crack and a dent in it.
