i have a 4506 with the silver finish and it looks a bit dull and has lights scratches. how can i "brighten" it up and maybe get rid of the light scratches? how much would S&W charge to redo it? should i just do it myself?

What has worked for me on a 5906 and 4006TSW is Nev r Dull. It is a wadding cloth treated with mineral spirits which will remove dirt, surface imperfections(shallow scratches), and grime on the surface of the stainless. It is easy to use and requires only elbow grease. Here is some info from the website. Try it and see the difference for yourself.zorro49

Try a lead free cloth also. Rub hard. Don't do this on anything blued or with a finish. Stainless guns are fine.

To get the 3RD Gen Stainless guns to look like new, I completely disassemble and bead blast with a very fine media. Brownells finest glass bead media works very well for duplicating the S&W factory finish. I then clean with solvent and pressurized air, then clean and clean again before assembling ,re-lubing,etc. I used ScotchBrite, etc before I bought a compressor and blast cabinet. Surface imperfections can be made less apparent, but it will not look Like the factory finish. I did do one gun with ScotchBrite that came out looking pretty good, with a brushed-type finish result. Nobody would ever mistake it for the factory 3RD Gen finish though.

I use Miracle Polishing Cloths to clean my CS9 routinely. It does a excellent job and its active ingredient is coconut oil.I have very bad Migraine Headaches and can't be exposed to any strong smelling cleaning agents.I also use breakthru weapons cleaning patches to clean the barrel and chambers with great results....God Bless.......Mike
