I received my letter back today on my Colorado State Patrol 4013. The letter stated that this one was sent to the CSP in 1998, then S&W must have received it back and sent it on to Lew Horton in 2000. Roy speculated that it may have been a test pistol. The pistol is in really nice shape for a police trade in. Intersting letter that I thought I would share. Curious if anyone else has had a similar letter.

I could have sworn it was the Colorado State Patrol.

You guys get so picky on some things that don't matter. Highway Patrol or State Patrol, it's the same dang thing and everyone knows what he's talking about. The 4013 is a great gun. Had one I carried on duty for several years while working undercover then sold it for some dumb reason and wish I had it back. I was a deputy sheriff and was usually refered to as officer Murphy instead of deputy Murphy but I didn't care.

Not sure about CSP being the same as CHP..a Highway Patrolman was eseentially "AAA" with guns for the highway system only..a State Patrol or Trooper had rein over the entire state..Dad was in the Alabama State Troopers and could arrest anywhere in the state..for any city, county or state law violation..and he was called Trooper as his title..I learned that at an early age..all5x

Here in California, our California Highway Patrolmen are our state troopers. Up until 1995, there was an agency called the California State Police albeit very small. However, on July 12, 1995, all 271 uniformed officers of the California State Police became part of the 5,713 sworn officers of the California Highway Patrol.

Maybe because of the CHiPs television series several years ago, but I think most folks think of the California Highway Patrol when they here CHP.

There’s a gun store in Lakewood, CO the owner of which is a retired Colorado State Patrol Trooper. He has a nice display in the store with a great selection of CSP handguns through the years. Yes the 4013 was an issued pistol.

I believe the issue pistol currently is the .40 M&P. I’ll ask my neighbor’s son, a trooper.

I believe there’s at least one retired trooper that’s a member, perhaps he’ll drop in and provide some history.

I remember back when they were known as Courtesy Patrol and I think they carried Pythons.
They did ride some fine looking horses.

Not really but it would have been in the 40s and early 50s.
