I have a family deal opportunity that is presenting itself to me. I can purchase a 3913 and/or a 5906 for around the 200-250 each area.

What I want is to here comments and ideally see photos of them side by side to convince me that I "need" 2 9's of the same type.

Other than round count why would you get both?

Buy them both.Have the 3913 for carry and the 5906 for home defence. I own a 5943 that I need to get a holster for so I can ccw. I have never owned a 3913 but did own a 3906 and if I could find a 3913 I would jump on it in a heart beat

I'd buy both at that price. Usually, one of them will cost that much. You'd have a perfect carry gun as well as a range gun. You'll be really sorry one of these days if you pass that deal up.

You must buy the 5906 and the 3913 to preserve proper balance in The Force.

If function is your main goal as opposed to building a collection, then the 3913 would be a better 1st choice IMHO. There will always be a high demand for good quality concealed carry guns, and the 3913 is definitely one of the best in its class.

If you want to justify buying BOTH guns from a functional point of view, then one could certainly build a case for the logic of having 2 guns that shoot the same size cartridge. You can avoid having to buy and stock multiple sizes of ammo, and if one gun breaks down, your ammo supply situation remains unchanged.

I think that the bargain prices you mentioned definitely make buying both of them the smart thing to do, though. You'll likely never get a deal like that in a gun store. And, in the future, you will probably see the opportunities for individuals to legally and privately buy and sell firearms between themselves ("off paper") be going away. Enjoy the limited freedom to do so while it lasts.

If you can afford it, get them both. Think of it as in investment.

I have 3913 twins, not identical twins as one is an LS, but the wife carries one sometimes and I carry the other as my main summer gun. I love the way they carry and shoot. I do not own a 5906, but just from my experience of the 3913, if you want a great carry piece that is also a shooter, go with that one. I agree with everybody else here though, that if you can afford both, don’t pass up getting the pair.

Not that you need to hear it again but I say buy both also. I have owned a 5906 and a 3913 and you will not regret buying either. You will regret it if you don't buy them both.

Another vote for both; we have two of each. The 3913 is one of the all-time great carry pistols; the 5906 is one of the best service pistols out there. All have been totally reliable. Curiously, the 3913s are a bit more accurate than the 5906s. I have won a few matches with the 3913 I carry every day. That price is way too good to pass up.

I too would vote for both. I also own a 5906 and a 908. I guess you could call the 908 a poor man's version of the 3913. I don't believe you would ever regret it. I would love to find a 3913, but the gun funds are just about dried up now. Maybe someday. Enjoy!

Well, I have 2 Beretta 92's (one black and one stainless), a Beretta Cougar, and a 3913. They all share the same cartridge, and the three Berettas are all full size guns not really suited for carrying. Never let it stop me. At the price mentioned, you would be crazy not to buy both. Leave the 5906 for home protection and range fun and you have the 3913 for carry.

a 5906 is not a good carry gun. I have always carried a 5906, yeah its a little heavier because of the stainless. But it is the most reliable gun ever made, you can store it in saltwater and then just shoot it all u want. You do need a good holster and belt but I carry mine year around, I' not a big guy, summertime a silk button shirt ( won't print), winter time a vest not a tac vest those say look at me I have a gun.

I suspect that up to this time you do not own any 3rd gen Smiths. I am sure if you did you would buy both faster than Garfield on lasagna.

The 5900 series is a full size gun. I just read someone's post that said it felt too big for them. I have a 5943 that fits my hands perfectly and I'd say my hands are medium size. Of course my model is light because it's an aluminum frame, but it's still full size. Sorry my camera was stolen or I'd post some pictures. If you buy either, or both I doubt that you will be disappointed.

I'm pretty sure they've gone up in value since the OP posted in 2009. Wonder if he bought them?

Yeah, I am late too. I have an early 5906 that is a great shooter and still looks new. I would never readily get rid of it! I have the same in 4006 and a nickel 39-2...I enjoy firing them all.

Buy them both, HD and carry, Then go after these other 2 for variety.

You shouldn't need a picture to convince you to buy the 3913. They have an excellent reputation for a reason. Out of all of the non-PC, non-TSW smith third gens, that is THE one to make sure you have.
