Default Follower/last round

When I got my M&P I didn't have an auto loader so I was loading my magazines the old fashioned way. Seems I formed a bit of a line in the followers from the bullets edge. So...it seems sometimes that the last round wants to hang up a bit. I guess it has less pressure at that point and the friction slows things down a bit. Should I replace the followers or can a slight sanding be done? Suggestions?

In 40 years of owning and using semi-automatic and automatic firearms of various types, I've never loaded a magazine other than the "old-fashioned way" with no ill effects. I don't know what's going on with your M&P pistol, but I seriously doubt it has anything to do with your loading its magazines by hand (unless you were somehow doing it incorrectly). Over and above this, the force of the recoil spring on the slide should easily defeat any "line" in the follower. If you're having feeding problems, I think I would look elsewhere for the cause. Have you tried shooting the pistol with a new, pristine magazine since you started having this problem? If not, try this and see how things go.

I say just shoot the thunder outta that thing. After awhile, the little line or bump will smooth out and things will be just fine.
