52 twist rate
This is from my 1963 Gun Digest article on the model 52 by Gil Hebard. On page 185 under the heading Bullet Tipping he states that 40% of the 3200 shots fired showed a tipping or scuff marks on the target at 50 yards. S&W has tried barrel twists of 12" 14", and 16" and 18.750 inches, various barrel lengths, riflings, chambers and reamings to overcome this but without success. This tipping was found in all guns firing full wadcutters in the mid range (600 to 900) fps muzzle velocity ammunition,in the specs for the gun he tested the twist rate was 18.75. Jeff
