Default Want to see S&W sales soar ?

What if we could get S&W to make a 586-Blue-without the internal lock in a 5" barrel that's chambered for .40 S&W AR.

I know , no such thing, why not ? Just think--.40 S&W is available to buy everywhere--relatively inexpensive--LEO's favorite round or so I hear--.

How hard would it be for them to convince Starline to make a .40 S&W AR case. My thoughts are the sales would hit the roof.

I'd buy one--what's your thoughts ?

Steve

I like my Model 646 (6 shot L frame .40 S&W) just fine, but they were not exactly hot sellers, certainly not as popular as the Model 625.

Actually I think S&W sales ARE soaring! Government contracts galore and a incredible variety of new models coming out the door on a regular basis makes for a lot of sales. I suspect current sales figures are so high already that the chances of getting any niche models produced is pretty low. Those around during the Vietnam War will remember that virtually all S&W's were in very short supply because of government contracts. All this isn't to say you don't have a good idea, but I think we are going to see fewer specialty items in the future.

I think you have a great idea. I'd buy one. I do have a 646 that I really like, carry it more and more. I think the .40SW is the round that Bill Jordon, Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton et al were after when the .41 Mag was designed. The .40SW is a great round and I would go for an AR version.

I would be happy if they would just make a proper 5" 625 without the PC ripoff, and even the PC model is not available anymore. They are willing to make several different 4" models for the Bill Wilson crowd and leave everybody else out in the cold. Not very encouraging for USPSA revo division.

I don't see the attraction of .40 AR vs. moonclips. Use the plastic ones at the range and the real ones for matches. It also only helps if you reload.

I think this idea has merit as well. .40 S&W seems to be the most popular LEO round. I can live with the lock but would prefer a 4" tube ( and no underlug).

The new Bodyguard .38 has no internal lock. That's the most "revolutionary" thing about it. It seems that if S&W can recognize that an ILS is a bad thing for a concealed carry revolver, it isn't too big of a leap to recognize it as a bad thing (or at least undesirable) for all revolvers.

Hope springs eternal that S&W will some day come to its sense, and I take the elimination of the ILS in the Bodyguard as a positive sign.

Thanks for your replies--

Using the 586 version in a .40 AR I thought would help eliminate some muzzle jump due to the forward muzzle weight. Even if they went the 625 version in a .40 AR I'd be happy.

No IL on the bodyguard ? Maybe hope springs eternal and they can see their way to making all revolvers without the IL.

Only time will tell.

We can always hope--especially if the Military and the LEO depts. convince them of the "error" of their ways.

Worst thing they ever did. That and raising prices where new guns are almost out of reach!

With inflation taken into consideration, and what other major makers are selling their items for... are they really almost out of reach?
They are selling like hotcakes right now.
