Default Next calibre for FPC?

My vote is for the 5.7x28. It will make a great truck gun in coyote country!

I have to disagree on that. I would be down with a 45 but, wouldn't turn my nose up at a 10mm/40. Maybe even a 44 mag/special if they can work out the magazine. The problem with the 5.7 is that new fangled operating system they used on their pistol version.

Also, when I think PCC the 57 doesn't come to my mind right off the bat. I have a feeling that they may even try to make one in the 30 Super Carry to try and make it more relevant.

Just sayin

I'd prefer a .45. With the decline of the .40 selling as new guns, and .40s slower to sell than 9mm and .45 in used guns, I don't think S&W will go down the .40 path. Same with the 10mm which appears as a niche firearm. Both .40 and 10mm have their supporters, but not enough to produce a PCC from S&W that would come close to flying off the shelves as the current 9mm and a new .45.

Millions already own a variety of .45s handguns, ammo is easily available, and the .45 has a long and historic reputation exceeding either .40 or 10mm. That alone makes the .45 a first choice business wise.

The 30 super hasn't caught on in handguns enough to warrant S&W's chance on that cartridge. Many who do have 30 super pistols have not been enthusiastic with the cartridge as it seems to be a solution in search of a problem.

While I doubt that S&W will soon make another FPC in any caliber, from a financial aspect the .45 has the panache that other caliber's lack. Bottom line is what counts to S&W and the .45 has the best chance to make them money.

multiple AR pattern manufacturers make 10mm PCC AR rifles. I have my eye on a Bear Creek Arsenal one. They use Glock pattern mags, and I already have a Glock 40MOS and a 29 on order, so plenty of mags. I'm trying to talk my brother into one, as the rounds wouldn't make it to his neighbors' houses unless he was shooting in a ballistic trajectory, as opposed to aimed and direct. He has bears, cougars and wolves wandering his property. Full load 10mm out of a 16" barrel will get it done.

My 9mm FPC manual states that this model of firearm is available in multiple calibers. It then lists 5.7x28, 30 Super Carry, 380 auto, 9mm, 9x21mm, 38 super, 357 Sig, 40S&W, 10mm Auto, and 45 Auto in it's ammunition type approved list.

One can only hope we see all of these. But then it might only be a cut and paste from another S&W manual and not an indication of future available offerings.

Honestly I'd be happy with .40, 10mm, or .45acp. I'd say 10mm is probably the most likely assuming they can figure out how to make the blowback system work with the heavier hitting round.

44 Auto Mag. Why not? Cases are easy to make. Same head size as 308. 44 Magnum power and you solve the rim feeding problem.

It is kinda weird comparing the 30 Super Carry to the 30 Carbine. The 30 carbine is bigger in almost every way except the neck and bullet size. Still, you already have a 30 Carbine. No need to go there again for a little different 30.

I think if they could get away with having an M&P pistol and FPC in 10/40, there would be plenty of interest for it. If you have Jim Shocky taking a 10MM pistol over to Africa hunting with it then you could certainly gain a little by having a 16 inch barrel sending a 10 down range. I could see that it might make a good white tail rifle back east where you can only use straight walled cartridges.

I expect that we'll see .45 ACP and 10mm.

On the 5.7. The 22TCM, which uses the 223 as a parent case, is slightly shorter and has a better velocities when using the 35-45 gr bullet weights.

Big deal is the 22TCM will function in actions designed for 9mm cartridges

I love my Rock Is 1911 9mm/22TCM

The fireball equals my 22Jet

If it remains direct blow back, I'd have no interest in anything more powerful than 9mm. Heavy bolts in blow-back semi autos are no fun.

Given that, 30 super carbine would make the most sense.

If they could incorporate some sort of delayed blow back system (maybe the tempo gas system), I'm all in for 10mm.

Otherwise, I'd be more interested in a manually cycled PCC in 10mm. Sub-36" OAL, 16" barrel, tube magazine fed, bolt action 10mm would be sweet.

The FPC in 30 SC would be materially different from an M1 Carbine. The 16" barrel combined with the magazine sliding into the grip means the FPC is substantially more compact.

The FPC in 9 is hardly kicking at all. I have the FPC and based upon what I have shot in 9mm, I would find it hard to believe that 10 or 45 would kick that much more. I also have a new buffer plug that I still need to test to see if it truly kicks less.

If you want a 30 just get the M1. I have already stated that I am not much of a fan of the Super Carry but, that aside, if 30 is the way to go I would rather have the 30 carbine than the Super Carry.

Just sayin.

That makes about as much sense as saying "if you want a 22 just get a 556."

Just like the 556, 30 carbine is a different form factor than 9mm/45/10mm/30SC. Thus, 30 carbine is out of scope.

caliber =/= cartridge

If you want to be pedantic, 30 SC is a 32 whereas 30 carbine is a 30 caliber cartridge.

HUH???? If you compare the 30SC and the 30 Carbine they are somewhat close to the same. Not sure where you get the 22 and 5.56 comparison. If you look at the history of the 30 Carbine, it was a replacement for the 45ACP. I wasn't trying to say that S&W should make the FPC in 30 Carbine but, it was be more reasonable than the 30SC. More velocity with less pressure. Also, I don't think I was being pedantic. Just trying to make my case to the OP.

I just finished my first PCC. I went with the 9 mm, why cost of ammo, plain and simple. My first choice was the 10mm but ammo cost is double. I think the 5.7 would be a great PCC with virtually no recoil but then you're right back to cost of ammo.
