Default 357 Maximum

Would like to see a revolver in 357 Maximum. I have had great results with it in a single-shot T/C.

8 shot X frame ? or would the length of an N frame cylinder accommodate a 357 max cartridge?

It would fit but people would go right back to ruining them with too light bullets and S&W would eat them in repair costs.

an "N" frame cylinder would be too short by at least .625

Dan Wesson's .357 Max Mag appear on gunbroker.com from time to time, I know some Rugers were built for the .357 Max, never seen one.

There was a Dan Wesson 357 max for sale at a LGS about 6 months ago. It had both max and mag barrels. Something like $499 or $599. Nice looking revolver

Default Smith 357 Max

I have two Dan Wessons and a TC that I shoot quite a bit.
I have never had any problems.
I have always thought Rugers problem might have been related to poor quality steel in their castings.
Anyway, Smith knows how to put blast shields on.
This is a lock gun I would buy, a 8-10 shot X-frame 357 Max

Default 357 Maximums

I shot silhouette back in the 80s. I shot (and still have) a Dan Wesson model 40. Like was mentioned, if you keep the bullets at 180 and up, no problems. The downfall of the Ruger, as I recall, was the cylinder was shorter than the DW and you could not do 200 from it very easily. The Dan Wesson cylinder is 2.075" where I understand the Ruger was 1.935." Doesn't seem like a lot but it was enough difference to cause problems restricting the heavy bullets. People went to 158s and even lighter in the Ruger and the flame cutting became a problem. The Dan Wesson came with 2 barrels and I never shot the second barrel yet because I never had any issues. Hope this helps.
