686 ... with interchangeable barrels that could be installed by the owner using a button/screw lock. Just imagine being able to take a L-frame and trick it out in .357 Magnum w/ whatever length barrel suited your needs ... then taking the same frame and using it w/ a change of cylinder and barrel(s) to shoot .44 Magnum!

How about a 627 in Long Tom config? They made everything else in 8 3/8”…[sigh]

1. A snub nose .45 that doesn't need moon clips. Like my Pitbull.

2. A Bodyguard MAX, like the LCP Max, no larger than my current Bodyguard, and with a manual safety. And make the safety a bit easier to disengage while they're at it.

No hope for #1, but they might make #2 considering the reception the Ruger received.

Off the top of my head...

1) Three inch 619
2) Three inch 620 or 686 Mountain Gun
3) Three inch 67
4) 586 Half lugs/Mountain Guns
5) Stainless Model 28
6) Eight shot, fixed sight .357
7) 627 with brushed finish, eight round cylinder, and classic tapered barrel (basically a 627 Mountain Gun).
8) More 3.5 inch tapered barrel N frames
9) More three inch stainless J frames in .38 Special
10) Mid Size 401 Power Mag (the industry missed the boat on that cartridge)
11) K/L frame .327 with a half lug barrel
12) Six inch 620 or 686 Mountain Gun

Lastly, they should have never thrown in the towel on the D frame sized Model 73, C frame revolver.

A blued round butt M27 8 shot with an 8.375" barrel.
Would settle for one in stainless.
Drilled and tapped for scopes.
New with warranty.

Fixed sight versions of all those N frame snubs in the 1980s.
10mm six shot L frame (if mechanically possible).
.30 Carbine N frame back in the cheap milsurp ammo days (not now).

I don't know if they made one but how about an N frame in .30 Carbine. and then make it in 5.7 Johnson (.22 spitfire). If they did that, I could then match them up with my two carbines.

How about a K frame with an internal hammer. Along the lines of a J Frame Model 640. A blued version would be fine too. Wouldn't have to have the darn lock in it either just like the modern hammerless J frames of late don't have them. Finally a way to sell new guns to the guys that don't like the internal locks. Maybe this makes too much sense to do it.

Dovetail front sights on fixed sight revolvers so you could set the windage for your load.

5 and 6 inch Model 69.

Fixed sight Model 69 with dovetail front sight.

I wish S&W would get back into the .327 Federal Magnum. I would love to see a K Frame in .327 like the Model 66-8 in both barrel offerings. Doubt it will happen….

A Model 312 Scandium round butt and tritium night sights on a 2 or 3 inch barrel. Or just reissue the 315 Night Guard.

I have a 2" Taurus 856 .38 Special +P in steel with a black oxide finish. I put a Galloway Precision spring kit in it, replaced the grip with a Hogue Monogrip, & replaced the pinned front sight with an Ameriglo tritium sight. The 856 and the 605 are also available in the 3" "Defender" with 2 front sights & 2 different grips. The 856 is available like mine or stainless in the UltraLite version, too. Mine has been flawless.

Just food for thought.

Default My dream revolver

A 4” blued N model S&W revolver, with a checkered bbl., and top strap, styled like a Mod. 27, chambered in .41 mag.
I would settle for any bbl. Length, metal, or metal material finish. Just for icing on the cake, of this hypothetical masterpiece, add a set of the 7 replaceable front sight blades, and fitted cherry wood presentation case, like comes with a .44 mag. Magna-Classic Mod. 629.

A stainless/alloy Model 12 snub in the late 1990s would be on my must-buy list (no lock, modern metallurgy).

Because Rossi beat them to it (the M720) and also did an uncharacteristically good job of it. I own one, and it is quite a well-made revolver with none of the customary Rossi/Taurus flaws.
Just guessing, but I suggest S&W wanted to go Rossi one better, rather than appear to be a complete copycat, like they later did with the S&W Judgernor.

Default Favorite N Frame That Should Have Been

So how about an N frame round butt fixed sight with 3 & 1/2" barrel .357 perfection. Found this from a forum member.

8 shot 627s with normal looking standard round barrels of any length, and no lock. They must have wrongly assumed that the 'slab side' barrels were what everyone wanted when many more people didn't want them.

A 627 with a 3 7/8" round barrel and lock was in production for only a very short time.

I've always wondered why a blue version of the 3" 625 was never produced by S&W. Jovino did what S&W should have.

I would like a model 60, 3" hvy barrel, adjustable rear sight, fiber optic front sight, TH/TT, target stocks, with a 6 shot cylinder in 22 TCM. If I ever win the lottery I will have it custom made. just because!

Red face Model 63 3"

Simple to make option for the Mothership.
Model 63 with RB and 3" barrel. Blk. ramp from sight or low profile FO.
I've shot the 317, but its weight is TOO light to shoot accurately.
I had a Charter Pocket Target Pathfinder in this config. in the 80's, but traded for a Browning BDA in a bad case of THE "I wants".
That little revolver was the perfect woods walker/plinker ACCURATE and easily carried.
I've been looking for a replacement for 30+ years.
JUST DO IT ! I've got an empty holster to fill.

A Scandium J frame snub in 327 Federal.

Both a centennial model and a exposed hammer version.

Steel cylinder for durability.

A great carry revolver with less recoil than a 357 Magnum 340.

Given my bad eyes, I'd like three dot night sights.

How about a K or L frame in .30 Carbine with spring extractor ( ala 9mm )?
Fixed or adj. sights ( or both? ).

M58 in .45 ACP, 45 Colt and 44 Magnum, and a 4" M25-2. I know they made a few, but needed to be standard production.

So...Here's a bizarre wish list gun...

An N frame in .22 long rifle. Could use aluminum to cut cost and weight in a few places. But...full size N frame...4" bbl. How many rounds of .22 in the cylinder? If we're fitting 10 in a K frame...12...14? A veritable high capacity assault revolver!

Really though...I think it would be stupid fun, a Steel Challenge champion, and a fantastic training aid for owners of all those lovely N frames out there.

I know...I'm weird. Never happen. But...in the name of silly dreaming...seemed fun to mention...

Indeed the .41 Magnum n-frame guns had sufficient mass in the cylinder to be virtually immune to most of the longevity problems that plagued the S&W 44 Magnum revolvers of the time.
This. They should have produced the full power.41 Magnum cartridge and head-stamped the service cartridge .41 Police or .41 Special .

N-frame would have 12-shot capacity, so let's go all the way. TRR8/R8-style black railed scandium X-frame with 14-shot capacity. It would still be a soft shooter!

A list of guns they could have and should have made would definitely include some kit gun type J frame .32s. Plus an airweight version. A .32 Caliber version of the model 35 would have interesting.
And how about a .32 version of the Bodyguard?

Moving up in size the Model 16-4 could have been the .32 Combat Magnum with the same barrel profile as the model 19. Just imagine a 6” bbl with Partridge front sight, 4” with Baughman ramp and a 2 1/2” RB in your choice of bright blue or nickel. Just like the 19. A round butt option for the 2” Model15 would have looked good.

Moving up to the heavy stuff an N frame Combat Target in .44 Special or .45 ACP. Just imagine a .44 or .45 Combat Masterpiece with a tapered 4-4.5 inch barrel with no under lug.

But getting back to reality there are still quite a few guns that S&W and Colt really made that I still don’t have an example of.

So I am going to keep on shopping.

Several interesting revolvers put forth above but please none with the internal lock and bring back quality control.
Restore S&Ws reputation for fine revolvers.l

I would have bought one in a snap! I did ask S&W if they had any plans to make one and then said no. That was in the late 70's or early 80's. Would have gone nicely with my Blued 6.5 in M-29-2

In a hammerless config. That's why I bought a C.A. Boomer. It's was my carry gun when hiking.

I also like the idea of a 327 magnum K frame. Ideally with 7-8 round capacity. Offered in a variety of barrel lengths.

As previously requested, 10mm in the L-Frame. I just recently acquired a 610 5". I'm thinking a 5-shot 3" L-frame would be a sweet spot.
