Texas Department of Public Safety is reporting there are now over 1 million Texans licensed to carry a firearm:

Texas Boasts Licensed-to-Carry Army of over 1 Million

I could argue that here in Maine we have 1.3 million people licensed to carry due to Constitutional Carry. But about a quarter of Mainers are under 21, so we're somewhere around 975,000.

Just thought it was an interesting milestone for Texas.

I read about this in the Fort Worth paper a couple of days ago. I am surprised with the 1 million number they are stating. To me the number is very low for a state this big. One reason it might be this low is because it is legal to carry a legal handgun in your vehicle without a CCL. Many are probably carrying without getting a permit.

When I took my CHL class years ago, the instructor claimed the low number had to do with the high incidence of domestic violence as well as the long legacy of Texans carrying, legal or not. Since the open carry law passed here, I have not seen a single case. A LEO buddy claims he has only seen one and that was at a Golden Corral.

Every weekly LTC class at my club is full.

The 6 hour class is normally a $100 but there are some classes in the area that have large discounts from Groupon.

At most times there's a waiting line to shoot so the range will start construction soon to expand to double the number of firing points and increase the distance from 25 yards to 50 yards on the 10 new points.

Keep Texas Red!

Doesn't surprise me. Everything is more and bigger in Texas.

So pretty much, if the US were ever invaded--they'd have a pretty good time, right up until they reached the Texas border, and then the show's over? Awesome. ;-)

I'm telling you; if I could do what I do for a living, but in Texas, I would so move. Might actually be able to afford a house of my own too.

I'm curious what can be done in Southern California that can't be done in Texas.

I'd have to agree that a good many Texans are carrying, CHL or not. Not too sure how much domestic violence has to do with it, but I think that a good many of us are packing regardless of what the law says. They may not have a gun on their person at all times, but they probably have one in their truck and on the bedside table. Heck, I'd guess that there are nearly a million folks here who routinely carry little NAA revolvers or other .22 offerings (LR or WMR) but have never considered applying for a CHL because they don't think that it should apply to a little .22 revolver or automatic.

I'd estimate that the number of people who are actually packing here in Texas is probably many times higher than one million.
