Since I live in Commifornia, I purchased 3 10/25 rd mags (10 rounds max. in 25 round body), but they are missing that little black loading assist tab that the short 10rd. & 25rd mag's have. Now they sell these, but I notice you can't remove the Blue mag follower from the 10/25 mag body to install these.

Does anybody know a way to get those black tabs into the followers. I was thinking of cutting a notch on each side of the circle and slipping it into the slot, but it may fall out if it lines up with the slot.

Presently I am putting a small metal bar into the hole and assisting it down while loading. Remember, you can go thru 10 rounds in a hurry and reloading these suckers are taking a toll on my beautiful soft fingers.. yea right... Looking for a solution... if any..

I lost an assist device after cleaning a mag and called S&W to order one. They sent one to me for free! Great customer service. The assist device slides into the follower from outside of the mag. You do not have to remove the follower to get the device in or out. You do have to remove the floor plate and the spring to allow the follower to slide far enough down to get the device in. Not sure if this helps. I haven't seen a 10 round mag, but thought I'd offer it up.

Thanks Unit505, you are correct, remove the base plate, pull spring out, the follower can slide all the way down to the bottom where the slot has a larger hole so you can remove it.

The 12/25 follower can't slide down to the bottom, there are internal plates so it can't be made into a higher capacity mag, therefore you can't slide it down to add a "Assist Device" (AD). You either need an Assist device that can be taken apart and screw together or some other way. Still working on it.... I can either drill a hole near the top of the slot to add the AD or somehow design a screw together one.. back to the drawing board. Thanks.

Ace,

I honestly don't feel the need for that assist. I have them on the shorty 10-rounders and I don't use them. I load them the way Brett248Vista does by holding it perpendicular to the follower/round below it and push down then slide it. I've gotten so good at loading it that way, it really takes no effort at all! No sore thumbs or any other fingers.

Just search on my old post for the "DIY" tips on how to make your own -- it is easy, and low cost -- AND will adapt to your style mag with no dis-assembly required.

I'm not to concerned with the small 10 rd mags, it the 10/25 ones that need it. I'm only being a big baby because my thumb is sore from my last 1500 round range test, I won't be doing that many rounds in a day again for sure. Been shooting 5.56 for years and never had this issue, first time for me to have a boo boo on my thumb..:(...

Load assist buttons

J22LR1DER & MAJORLK, I don't understand what you fellows mean when you say the load assist buttons on ebay "look terrible" and are "way to big and expensive". I have them on five of my 25rd mags and I happen to think they are the best way to load the mags there is so far. I know there is a lot of talk about a speed loader for our mags but I couldn't wait and got these assist buttons. I also looked at Brett248Vista's video on how to load the mags without using the original assist buttons, but I still prefer the assist buttons I bought because I can do it faster and still be 100% properly loaded. When I go to the range I shoot all five of my mags three times each, for a total of almost 400 rounds. Now I'm not personally involved with RavenEyeCustom.com that sells these buttons but I can assure you when I'm loading that last mag with 25 rounds at the end of the day I have absolutely no thought about my thumb and forefinger being sore. The load assist buttons are actually larger then the original factory buttons so they are easier to depress even without the load assist tool. The cost for the assist buttons for my five mags came to a total of $17.42, which equals $3.48 a mag. Maybe it could be considered an unnecessary expense, but with all the money we have invested in our rifles I still think it's money well spent. Just my opinion.:)

The price quote on the link posted is over $4 each. That's 25% of the cost of a new mag.

After looking closer, I do notice that it's actually a two-piece design, so I take back my too big comment.

I noticed that he is now offering a three-pack of just the buttons for $6 and change so you don't have to buy multiple pins and caps. That makes them more affordable.

On that basis, I ordered enough for eight mags yesterday (12/26)

Well, my point is I DON'T HAVE the assist buttons on the 10/25 Mags so that tool does not apply. I'm doing some engineering designs for this issue and will post it when I'm done. For now any thin metal rod can go in the follower and can be pulled down to assist, so it's not a real issue. I was looking for a pernament button to install but still looking.. thanks guys for the feed back.

I saw one photo where the fella used bolt through the hole and ground it down to clear the mag well. I'm going to try a nylon one on my 10/25 just as an experiment. I have six 25 round mags and two 10 on order.

Majorlk, yea, that's what I'm talking about, I may be using some form of nut & bolt setup to make some kind of loading device. I'm also thinking of some product from Staples, flat head rim binders, that may work as well.
Thanks.

I just tied an 8" piece of Paracord through the hole on the follower. When I reload, I pull the rope, and the follower drops, no pressure on the rounds. You could always drill out the stopper that is molded into your magazine, and removed the follower that way... except its illegal.

Hadn't thought of that; the simple solutions sometimes escape us. :)

Well the thing about the rope, is it falls inside the grooves of the mag, so it doesn't hang up inside the magwell. Removing the molded-in pin would be easy with an end mill

Jerk hahah. The state itself is beautiful with great weather. The people that run it are ****.

Jav,
Ahhh, and there's the conundrum! The people that run it are
' Wait for it" Elected by the people that LIVE IN IT! I agree with you it is a beautiful state, until you peel back the first layer and look at all the liberal idiots that have made it what it is today, the laughing stock of the country. I was stationed in San Diego for about 14 of my 21 years in the service and I had such a great time when I lived there, I shot in matches all over the state and hunted and fished, your state was a great place at one time, but those days have long since passed, pretty soon one day there will be a knock at the door and you will have to surrender your guns, Every year your attorney General can add firearms to the list of guns you can't own anymore and it will never stop until the gun owners in your state figure out how to overturn the laws that are forcing people to abandon your beloved state like the sinking Titanic. A sad but true story! Good luck
