10-8 born on date?

I've have a 10-8, serial # 3D37###. I looked it up in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson #4 and there appears to be a gap. For the Model 10 it lists 2D##### which is 1978 then goes to 4D#### listed for 1979. No 3D##### range of numbers.

Anyone?

It is more likely 1978 late since 4D starts 1979. But it should be understood that S&W did not use serial numbers like others and their shipping might be different it might be better to letter the gun or rely on the information listed in the Standard Catalog of S&W ...

Yes. That's an error in the SCSW. I talked with Roy about it several years ago and he told me that the 3D numbers were used in 1978. So you can pencil in a correction in your copy, as I did. :rolleyes:
