Hello Good Folks.
Finally found a model 1076 with SN prefix TFE, made in 1990. Don't know if was an FBI issued or not. See pics. I am wanting to know what the "R" and the upside down "T" stampings mean on the trigger guard. Thanks

I have seen T and U in similar locations but never 2 together. I had understood the U meant it was sold by as a Used pistol, potentially a return refurbished for resale or a contracted but surplused pistol. There has been some discussion a long while back - but I would be happy to have some of the history experts chime in.

more info on markings

I do know that the two pin punch marks behind the frame de-cocker indicate that Smith has performed a recall on this gun. So they had it back for the recall after it was made and sold in 1990. I read somewhere that the "R" stamp can mean repair or refinish. Likely repair on this stainless gun. I have no idea what the upside down "T" means and I have seen it on images of other Smiths. Smiths customer service e-mail answered me that "the marks are inspection and internal quality control marks for record keeping and maintenance records". I sure would like details on what each of the marks mean - if anyone here can help. I am not inclined to buy the Jinks letter - just to hope they tell me what the marks mean and/or details of the guns history, lol. Thanks.
