Ok... I am going to pick this baby up tomorrow!!! I don't know if I'm lucky or not, but I had a "feeling" and told Mom I wanted to go to this Pawn shop we've dealt with for years... they are good guys and fair, been around for years... anyway I walk in and check out the pistols... and I zoomed in on the S&W.... I love 10mm... my Uncle has a Star and it is so much fun... well I looked at the s&w and well the outside isn't great... but it's not bad... inside is clean... slide was nice... it had been taken care of... so I put it on lay away and had Mom run it... it's clean.... I've seen some of the posts of the 10's on here and I know I'm paying a good price for it... but I would like to learn more about it!!! Any help, info, advice... I'm all ears!!! or eyes... the serial is TFF8xxx don't know if that will help... I saw something about asking for a letter from S&W?

What would you like to know about it?

A 1076 is the shorter barreled (4.25" instead of 5") frame mounted decocking version of the 1006.

They were produced from 1990-1993. TFF8xx would most likely be from early 1991.

I want to know everything! lol I've searched and read whatever I can read... I'm that type of person... whatever you know I will read! Reading articles about the gun only does so much... personal experience with weapon... goods/bads... likes/dislikes...

Here is mine

I like that it is stainless steel, powerful and holds ten rounds...about $10.00 worth of ammo, LOL! A 10mm is not a cheap beast to feed, and it is a beast. I have not quite mastered the one I bought. I honestly do not like the shape of the decocker, it looks like a wart. I prefer the type of decocker Sig uses. This is a heavy gun when empty, even heavier when loaded. Spare magazines are costly, a little over $40.00 apiece.

Amanda66 good luck with your 1076. If you get a letter from Roy Jinks you might have an FBI model. Here are some characteristics of the FBI issue 1076. Caution: capable of firing with magazine with magazine removed (written rt. side of slide). No hole drilled in underside of slide for Mag disconnect. Cross hatch checkering on front strap. Palm swell grips (although not always) Nite sights with dots far apart on rear sight. The letter 'U' under the trigger guard which means it was returned to S&W for repair and sold as a used gun. Hope this helps. In case your interested FBI guns are worth quite a bit more than the civilian version

The one I'm getting has 3 mags with it... I'm not worried about weight.. I'm 6' tall and build like a lineman... lol which is partly why I like bigger guns... the smaller ones don't fit my hands comfortably... back in '03 the rounds weren't cheap for 10's... so I know it can be costly... I'm picking it up tomorrow and headed to the range on Sat!!! Gonna take my S.A. .40 and S&W .357 and the new 10mm... I'm all kinds of excited :D I know some have said that the 1076 is a nicer 10 to shoot... so we'll see! Thanks for your input though!!! I am wondering though... when you say you haven't mastered it? shooting wise? or are there some other issues?

My eyes are fifty-two years old, as are my fingers. I don't hit as well with it as I would like too. I forgot about muzzle flash, this is one gun that will light up your life and most everything within ten or fifteen feet.

The 1076 is one of my favorite pistols, if you know someone you trust that reloads, the cost of ammo will be a lot less, the recoil is a bit stout, but not unmanagable, the 1076 is a well made pistol, take your time with it, and you will do just fine, George.

Call S&W customer service and provide the serial numbers to them. They will tell you if it was shipped to the FBI or not.

Let us know what they tell you.

I picked it up!!! it's SO pretty!! lol it's in a lot better condition then I remembered!! I'm SO excited!! I'm gonna take it out to the range on Sat!!! I will probably see about getting a letter, even if it isn't FBI issue... It doesn't have the cross hatch checkering, has a caution on the right side of slide, but it says to check manual. It doesn't have a U under the trigger guard either.... That being said... even if it isn't an FBI issue... it's still awesome!!! and it's MINE!!!! hehe I'm in love! can't wait to take her to the range!! :D

I'd insert a picture, but not sure how to do it...

Bear... I trust both of my Uncle's to reload!!! My one Uncle has a Star 10mm... :D which I love... but he reloads.

Jetpilot... S&W is sending me an owners manual... and I talked to Mr. Jinks, he was really nice! Gave me the info I needed if I decide to get a letter from him... which I will prolly do just so I have it, even if it isn't FBI issue.

A lot of people use Photobucket.com to upload photos to. If you have the website link to the image you can just post it by adding
Hope that helps. Enjoy you new 10mm, have to let us know how she shoots.

I bought it at a Pawn Shop... so no box... It did have 3 mags with it... ran serial #... it's clean... and I paid $500 for it... the guys there threw in a hard case for it... and of course a trigger lock

They didn't come out clear, you need to send me the gun so I can get a better look. :D You got a good deal on that beauty! The last 1076 I saw at a gun shop in as good condition with only 2 mags was $575.

Hun... I'm blonde, not stupid! lol The pics looked fine to me! even if they were taken on my camera phone! :D She'll be staying right here! ;) I'm glad to know I got a good deal though!! I'm SO excited!! lol even if most people think I'm nuts :D I'll let ya know after we get done at the range how she shoots!!!

You have a great gun. I have the 1076 and the 1026 (same gun with a 5 inch barrel). I particularly like the Sig like decocker.
The 10mm is a really hot round. And I think It may become the go to auto round for dangerous game defense. Use a 200 or better solid slug (hard cast or FMJ) and it will certainly give the needed penetration for bear stopping.
You are going to have fun, remember where you heard it first, oh well sounds like you already know that. Nice price for a nice gun.

"I particularly like the Sig like decocker"

Too bad the designer didn't look at a Sig before he came up with that wart-like lever on the #1076. Here is a Sig P225 to compare. IMHO, this is what a proper decocker should look like.

Thank you for the compliments!! I have to admit I'm now really, really curious to find out if it's FBI issued... Serial # TFF8xxx, has two dots under decocker, all 3 mags have S&W stamped on them, doesn't have the checkering just straight lined groves... the sights have 2 red dots with white dot on the end of the barrel... uh... One guy I think said it was a early 1991... I looked up older posts and reading them it has some features that say FBI and has the right prefix on the serial #... I'm going to call Customer Service in the morning per someone's advice and see what I find out... if they can tell me it was FBI issued I'll be sending for a letter for sure! I just don't know if I can wait 10 weeks! lol
