I have a G40MOS that I have deer hunted with in the past. I’ve made some changes to it and want to start reloading for it.
I have the brass, primers, powder, books, equipment just want to cut to a successful load if anyone wants to share their recipes.

I’ll be using Underwood to hunt, this is just practice ammo.

Thanks.

I just got my first 10mm back in the late spring and the heat of summer had put a damper on my testing, lol.

But I liked what I was getting from CFE Pistol. I'll have to go out and get my notes for specifics. I'll edit post in a bit.

I also wanted to try the Accurate 5,7, or 9. One of them I mean, forget which?

My go to powder for plated and FMJ’s is Longshot. I like Bluedot also. For lead bullets that I shoot in my 610’s I’ve been using AA#9. I got several pounds a few months back for $20/per and I like the results.

Watching this thread. I was using a 155 Gr, FPRN with 6.0 of Bullseye. I was trying to find a load that worked well in my S&W 610 and my Ruger SR1911.

I had to wait to get home to look up a couple recipes.

First up is my 175 grain conical flat point lead bullet over 12.3 grains AA#9. C.O.A.L. is 1.245”. I load this for my 610’s and is a very economical load. With the AA#9 picked up for $20/lb. and I bought over 3K of the bullets for $150 from someone who was getting out of reloading, my cost per round is between $.20 and $.25…I’m using Starline brass that is dedicated to revolver use and this is my third or fourth loading of it.

Next is my 200 grain FMJFP from Everglades Bullets over 8.5 grains Longshot with a C.O.A.L. of 1.260”. I use Starline for these also…whatever won’t chamber easily in a 610 cylinder gets relegated to semi-auto use. I shoot these in my 1026, 1076, M&P 2.0 10mm, and RIA Tac Ultra 10mm. These run about $.40 per round if you amortize the brass cost over a few loadings.

Last up of what I’ve loaded recently is my 200 grain plated FP bullet from Everglades Bullets ($.129 each) over 8.2 grains Longshot. C.O.A.L. is also 1.260”. I load these in range pickup brass that I bought in bulk for $.10 each, and I’m a few loadings into them, so a fairly economical load also at about $.30 each. I shoot these mostly in my M&P.

If you like Starline, the best price I’ve found is Crate Holdings. Their normal price for 10mm runs about $.195 each with shipping for 1K, but I took advantage of their labor day free shipping and got 1200 cases for $.17 each.

Left to right: conical flat point lead, FMJFP, plated flat point.
Second pic is what I loaded this past weekend:)

Which Underwood does the O/P use for hunting...? There are quite a few options ranging from 115 through 200gr...

Cheers!

There are quite a few good 40 cal 200gr bullets for reloading 10mm: finding load data that will approach Underwood's 1,250 fps could be a bit of a challenge, though...

Blue Dot, Longshot, Accurate #9 & 800-X (good luck finding any!) seem to be the powders that could get you there with a 200gr bullet: probably much easier with a 180gr for practice purposes...? It would definitely require working up (and beyond so-called "published" load data:eek:) to get their respective velocities. 800-X appears to have the most "wiggle-room" (pressure wise, anyway) between published highs and potential higher velocity.

Or, you could try one of their Lehigh-based loadings...

Cheers!

I was gonna use the 200 gr XTP load but

What are you hunting? For most deer it should be good. Hogs or maybe big mule deer a SWC should be okay.

I loaded A#5 under 170 gr coated SWC and A#9 under 200 gr coated SWC.

...this is just practice ammo.

A wide range of possibilities here. Not a lot of specifics to work with. Maybe you could add some?

I mainly shoot 165gr bullets, occasionally 180gr. Never see any 200gr.

165gr is the most readily available, so the cheapest though prices keep going up.

Zero makes a sturdy & consistent JHP that people have shown expands fairly well but I use V-Crowns for my SD ammo. Zero is definitely for my range ammo.

Occasionally use plated bullets for moderate loads, never use lead or coated bullets though in my 10s.

Every gun is different but I can't think of a "bad shooting" load that I've handloaded in 10AUTO.

I like to load my 10AUTO to SAAMI max COAL" (1.260") as long as it feeds & chambers properly.

Mostly everything I shoot is full power or higher so I can't give you any powderpuff loads if that's what you're looking for.

Warning: some loads shown are over published max. Use at your own risk.

IMO anything slower than AA#7 is too slow in the 10AUTO. Medium speed powders like Power Pistol & LongShot, which perform equally, are great in the 10AUTO for full loads but AA#7 tops them in max loads.

165gr SIE-SIG V-Crown, AA#7@ 13.5gr:
My 8" CMMG MK-10 peeks at 1558mv with this load but because these AR pistols do not have fully supported chambers the brass is subject bulging so reduce loads in them. No bulging problems in my fully supported 3rd Gen 10s, or my 610, but this is a serious load. See warning. ;)

This is what I was asking I guess. I didn’t want to waste components looking for an accurate practice load.

Thanks for the replies.

My experienced 10mm loaders, would these primers cause you alarm? 9.5grs of Longshot , CCI 350, 180gr XTP 1.260 fired from G40 with 6” KKM Barrel.
